We don't have Sky Broadband so one of the key benefits for the 'Sky Q Mesh' technology of extending WiFi wasn't available to us. Alas within a few days of the Sky Q system running over WiFi we'd start to experience drop-outs etc. A Sky installer was called out and insisted on installing Sky Q wireless booster boxes throughout the house - with no thought for how these would be cable managed and secured - but rather simply left plugged in across the house.
I purchased these and I'm glad I did. It's such an easy and simple set up. I highly recommend plugging these in directly to a wall socket and not via an extension cable or the like. You simply plug one adaptor into the socket nearest to the router, and connect this to your router via cat6/7 (might as well future proof and avoid cat5). You do get one cable included - use this!
You then press the pair button on this adaptor, and then plug the second adaptor in a socket next to the device you wish to connect. Both adaptors are the same, so it doesn't matter which is which. And then press the pair button on this adaptor. Within a few seconds a connection shall be made.
We had another Sky Q Mini installed a few days ago and I had one of these installed ready to be used. Once again the Sky installer insisted on using WiFi. I explained I had been using these since we had Sky Q installed since ~2016. The installer explained he was called out regularly to properties where similar adaptors were being used and these caused more trouble than solved.
However, he was pleasantly surprised it worked straight away with no messing with settings etc. In fact, he asked to take photos of the device and set-up so he could report this back to other customers who were also in large brick houses that had problems.
Initially, these were purchased purely for Sky Q. I've since tried to push as many devices off WiFi as possible. I have 6 of these now installed. There's a tpPLC app that you can download to monitor connectivity and throughput and these are all regularly showing over 1,000Mbps. I haven't tested the throughput - but I haven't had need to. Sky Q works with no issues, I've got printers, smart TVs, VoIP devices all plugged into these across our house and no issues with signal/dropouts.
Save yourself a headache with WiFi and get these. I'm not an electrician, but I've got these all dotted throughout the house and I know these rooms are off different circuits (as the main circuit board has different fuses for different rooms) but these work! Just note: the cables come out of the device at the top, which is a shame, but this is the only small negative.
I use a Virgin Media Super Hub 3 which is located upstairs and wanted an Ethernet connection to my Amazon Fire TV box downstairs. These work fine and I can stream HD movies with no problem. Great product and value for money.
Sleep mode is enabled by default but can be disabled using their tpPLC_Utility (which incidentally says they're operating at over 1000mbps!) will see if it still goes to sleep like the Netgears (update: they don't, been working fine for a few weeks now).
They are *massive*, you can barely push the switch on a double wall socket, also they're upside down so the majority of the height is above the wall socket and the ethernet cable sticks out the top.
These things are known to interfere with VDSL and coincidentally or not, my BT HomeHub6 lost its fibre connection under an hour after plugging these in, its back online now but I'll keep an eye on it. The utility software had an option to help with this which I've not tried yet as it said it may lower the speed even more.
This set is for cabled connection but you can also get wireless versions that are just as simple to setup, I used them to set up my games console in a room in the far corner of the house and now have perfect game play no more connection loss, very happy gamer.
So far there is no dropouts. I have upgraded from 500 which was really bad with dropping connections.
Set up is really easy, don't really need degree in network engineering. Just follow the instructions on the manual. Simples!
