I bought the above item in April last year for a backup for the charger that came with my Macbook Pro.
Upon receipt I could tell immediately that it was NOT a "Genuine Apple" (as you state) product but rather a fairly good copy.
The connectors and cables are all of inferior quality and it ran very hot.
Against my better judgement and the advice of others I work with I kept your product.
It has died today after very limited use, maybe 5-10 hours a week?
If on the off chance you were not aware that you are selling dodgy copies of Apple products well, as they say - Now you know.
I will be leaving a bad review, quoting most of this message.
Admittedly did last a year but as I state above the unit was only used for 5-10 hours a week.
Wouldn't rant normally but I thought I was buying a "Genuine Apple Macbook Pro" product - I wasn't.
Last week I had to disconnect it as my laptop was over heating to the point whereby I had to stand it on top of a book to allow it to cool down - I connect the laptop to an external monitor and use an external keyboard so this wasn't really an issue. Then, yesterday I pulled the adapter out of the wall socket and the detachable plug part completely ripped away from the main unit leaving the inside gubbins exposed. It's completely unusable and I have just emailed a photo of it to the supplier.
Due to this still (hopefully) being within it's 6 month warranty I expect to get a replacement - I will update this message once I know the outcome of this.
The external markings say it is an 85W device and model A1343, clearly it is neither. I believe it is counterfeit.
Apple warns that using a 60W charger on a MacBook Pro 17 inch that requires an 85W device can cause overheating, slower charging times, erratic performance and potential damage to charger, battery and/or computer!
Check yours now - run the System Information application and check Hardware -> Power -> AC Charger Information
Wattage (W) should show 85.
After researching online I found that some MacBookPro users were having problems with the new L style connectors. Since my MacBookPro came with the old T style connector, to be on the safe side I decided to go with this product.
1) It appears to be an official apple product
2) Delivery was on time
3) Been working for almost a year now
My friend recently replaced his T style charger with a L style so I don't think it matters so long as you get the correct wattage for your MacBook. I prefer the T style because it comes out easier if you trip on the power lead and is less likely to pull your laptop over than the L style.
I am disappointed that the T style connector IS NO LONGER OFFERED. This product has appeared to change to the L style now.
The important thing for me is that I get an official apple charger so I don't fry my expensive laptop with a cheap charger, that's just false economy.
