Review

James has made a very good attempt at demonstrating the benefits from practicing the modern TaiJi form - 24 Step... some good tips and exercises. -- UK Tai Chi, Betty Sutherland A step-by-step guide for all levels... I love this book for spreading understanding of tai chi. I hate it for taking away some of the magic, but mostly I love it for being a comprehensive and readily understood aid to learning and teaching. After all, there's always a deeper magic! -- Tai Chi Finder This comprehensive book maps out in scrupulous detail, supported by nearly 700 photographs plus drawings, all the moves (hands, feet, legs, torso, musculoskeletal system, breathing, and more) for each of the twenty-four forms. Each form includes instructions for beginners as well as for more advanced practitioners... the author has done an admirable job... his passion for sharing this accessible version of taiji is evident throughout the text. With words of wisdom, complemented by years of experience and perspective as teacher, Drewe draws forth the subtleties of the "feeling" (of the moves), helping students access a deeper embodiment of the forms --- truly bridging mind and soul through this mindful movement practice. -- Bobbye Middendorf - Foreword Reviews

Lots of us making our way in the world of Tai Chi said many times that we needed a good book in English that would cover the background, performance and technical detail of the modern Yang Style. Well, Xmas is here early! James Drewe is a highly talented teacher of Tai Chi, who also happens to be a very competent author. Simon Watson is a brilliant performer and teacher, whose stances are the best in the business. Hence, the book is erudite, comprehensive and readable, while the photographs are effortlessly accurate.

Whether used as an aide-memoire by students, or as a source text by teachers, this book is the business. I am recommending it to my students and shall be using it to back up my own knowledge when teaching.

Thanks, James! You have put untold effort into contructing this book and I am sure that generations of Tai Chi practitioners will add their thanks in turn.

Very useful, clear and detailed information about the way to practise the form with its more frequent variations. Yet a little bit disappointed that the book does not contain any indication for martial applications.

4.0 out of 5 stars great 9 Oct. 2012

I just bought the kindle version of the book-- and I found that if you use the menu and contents quick key to skip ahead to the 'easy reference', you'll find the pictures back-to-back.

Ideally this kind of reference book would be bought as a soft-cover, (because you're constantly flipping back and forth between pages,) ...but I am just happy that the book came with back-to-back picture instructions on my kindle =p

now this time next week I will be the local master making $$ and the park }:->
