Top customer reviews
The PCTV 292e can do both (HD and recording a whole mux), and does so flawlessly. I use Windows Media Centre and Next PVR, both on Windows 7. The PCTV site doesn't not mention compatibility with Windows 10. but the package *does* install and the device works with Next PVR.
The only thing that stops me giving it a 5-star rating is that the miniature aerial socket is VERY POOR. An adaptor from the normal size to the mini size is provided, but the mini-plug does not fit firmly into the socket on the 292e - it is VERY prone to pulling out. I've lost a few recordings that way. I've now wrapped sellotape around the aerial adaptor and the end of the 292e to hold the two together. You might want to do the same. Hauppauge, please take note and fix this annoying little defect - preferably by using a full-size aerial socket.
To identify your PCTV stick pull out the sliding section to reveal the model number - also the logo on the 292e is multicoloured whereas the 290e is white.
I should add that if you intend to use your PCTV device with DVBLink it will be necessary to obtain a licence which will cost around £25.
I'm running Windows 8 under Parallels Desktop 8 on OSX 10.8.4 and this works perfectly in that configuration. It is then a simple job to view recorded .TS files on the MAC using VLC.
I'm looking forward to some true MAC software that can control the 290e directly but until then this is pretty good.
