This story is more than the tale of a couple trying to celebrate their relationship amid the sadness of life in exile. It's the story of the birth of a new Syrian city.

Reading this took me straight back to the Zaatari camp. The colour that Seeley offers is vivid. He clearly knows the camp very well, and has got under its skin in a way that most journalists can't do because they're only there for a day or two. Indeed, in the epilogue, he mentions that he spent weeks living in the camp.

It's not a long read, but it's one that will stay with you for a long time. This is the defining piece of work about life in Zaatari. Just get it now.

A worthwhile read. The events in Syria displaced hundreds of thousands of people, sentencing them to quite possibly very long long-term temporary residence in camps, where they still try to lead lives as close to normal as possible. The book does an excellent job of making the reader sympathise with their plight.

I Read this book and thoroughly enjoyed it if that is the right word for such a subject. It put a human face to the suffering of the people in their daily lives. It also cleared up a lot of misconceptions that parts of the media were putting across. Read this book it might well open your eyes

I was quite disappointed when I read this book. I seemed to read for a short time and when I looked at how much I had read I was more than a third through.
