How I wish we could use half stars. This CD comes in the category of "spoiling the ship for a ha'porth of tar". So lets get the good things out of the way. The arrangements are gorgeous and the sound spectacular. (The organ growls splendidly in Phantom).
Now to the niggles. Each suite is given a single track. The music plays continuously, but there are pauses which could have been used to provide extra tracks. I wouldn't always want to just play the suites straight through. Next, it would have been nice to have the songs listed as they appear in the suites. Lastly, I'm most familiar with Evita. I had the original double LP with Julie Covington which I played to death. Near the end of the present suite, there is a song I don't recognise. I assume it was the one written for the film. The arrangement is largely for solo piano. It seems slotted-in, as though there was no time to make a proper arrangement. To my ears it sounds out of place.
The disc is housed in an elaborate cardboard case, though I don't think one of the recording engineers was pleased to find her name spectacularly mis-spelled.
However, if none of the above bothers you then I can recommend this CD.

This is a fabulous disc - both in terms of the music and what the recording as a whole represents. In the CD booklet, much is made of the difficulty of recording a large orchestra in the middle of a pandemic and Lloyd Webber writes passionately about the need for music to overcome the burdens imposed. He has been a figurehead for the Arts during Covid and deserves our gratitude.
In my opinion, the Evita Suite stands out head and shoulders above the other two. The orchestral palette is immediately recognisable as vintage Lloyd Webber and Andrew Cottee has done a superb job orchestrating the work - paying homage to the both the composers and David Cullen's original orchestrations and stylish use of the orchestra. Cottee has been a little more conservative in the other two suites but they still remain highly enjoyable.
Let us hope that this is not the only Symphonic Suites album. I suggest 'Jesus Christ Superstar'/'Cats'/'Joseph' as the next project!
A couple of disappointments - the booklet contains typos (poor form Decca) and I would have liked to know more about how the suites were formed and the respective roles of Lloyd Webber and Andrew Cottee in the production of them.

his best music played by a symphony orchestra

I have been looking forward to getting this since it was first announced earlier in the year, and frustrated by the delays in production that put the release of this back to the Autumn, but it was well worth the wait. All the beautiful tunes are in there, but what makes this CD so wonderful is the use of an 81 piece orchestra, with the full range of sounds and orchestrations this brings. The word "Symphonic" means many sounds and it is the orchestrations of Andrew Cottee passing the themes appropriately around the orchestra, and adding in all the countermelodies which bring a vibrancy and dynamism to the whole thing. One very small thing that bugs me is the links between the tunes are a little abrupt and the music changes gear with a bit of a clunk! A huge thank you to both Andrew's and all 81 of the orchestral musicians, and the recording team for producing what is now my favourite CD. Please can we have a "Symphonic Suites 2" disc too!

What on earth is going on with this album I pre-ordered it for a present for my husband and today it was opened and played for the first time. Name and album content are in chinese/japanese on my computer. Otherwise fantastic music.

Wonderful to hear these works played by a full orchestra - the power & depth of the music is superb - I prefer to listen with headphones so no external interruptions. My favourite is Sunset but it's down to personal choice of course.

Cd seems OK but when I tried to download to lap top all information seemed to be in Chinese

Great collection of some first class music from classic Lloyd Weber shows. Great quality recording, thought it could have been longer though.
