Product Description

In the year 2022, next-generation game Sword Art Online (SAO) is the world's first true VRMMORPG. A virtual reality helmet known as "Nerve Gear" has been developed, making Full Dives into a virtual dimension possible.

SAO has generated worldwide buzz, and on its official launch day, one player, Kirito, immerses himself in its virtual world. But Akihiko Kayaba, the developer of SAO, proclaims the following to all players. "This game is inescapable unless all levels are cleared. And in this world, 'Game Over' is equivalent to death in the real world."

When I first bought this series I wasn't too sure what I was in for. I just read the description about it being centred around an online game where players are trapped in a virtual world and can't escape unless they clear the game. Plus, if they die in the virtual world, they die in real life, too. It sounded like a really good idea for a series, so I bought all 4 parts together. I was doubtful about whether it would meet my expectations. But after viewing the first few episodes, I knew I'd gotten my money's worth. Even if you're not into online gaming this is a must have for any fan of anime. You won't regret buying it.

To start off for those that don't know what Sword Art Online is about it's about the first virtually created online video game in 2022. It is hyped to be one of the greatest games ever until the players log in to find out they are unable to log out and if they die in the game they will die in real life. The anime follows Kirito, his adventures and how he survives but I shan't say anything else, I'll let you watch the rest!

For those interested about the box and/ or box art it is your average plastic DVD case but the artwork on the outside and inside is quite nice for that of just a normal case, the inside has an image of Aincrad (where the game is set)with a small episode list at the bottom which is easy to read. The disc itself looks pleasant with a kind of dark swept look with a black outline of Kirito on it. The menu of the DVD is also easy to navigate with either playing all episodes, episode select, set up and bonus features. The first two are self explanatory in what they consist of. The set up enables you to watch it in Japanese or English with or without English subtitles so you can watch it whatever your preference is. The bonus features has the opening and ending credits without the text so that's nice too, not amazing but it's something.

The anime itself is addictive from the get-go and a must watch for any anime fan. It's exciting, dramatic, entertaining and certainly worth a watch. Quite a lot of people will say that it goes downhill from episodes 15 onwards, I personally don't agree as it's still full of action and is great to watch but I can see how people would prefer the earlier episodes of the season. Despite the somewhat questionable price for only seven episodes it is certainly worth buying either now or waiting on the price to go down but I can't recommend it enough and it is a fantastic anime! I'll be sure to pick up the rest of the DVDs when they come out at the end of the next few months!

I was hooked on the first episode of this anime. A friend recommended the series and the idea of being trapped in a video game seemed like a clever and intriguing plot. Since SAO is set in a game, gamers may find this more enjoyable, however, the story is brilliant and anime fans will thoroughly enjoy it as well. There are often time gaps between each episode, preventing a repetitive storyline, but sometimes an episode to fill in these gaps would be great. This does not affect the anime overall though, the storyline and concepts contribute to a beautiful anime which I would highly recommend to anyone.

This is a serious joke. To actually see Aniplex (a fairly respected anime company) exploit a dedicated fanbase by forcing them to pay £80 for 25 episodes on blu-ray makes me want to burn up inside. Anime companies are complaining that torrents and piracy are destroying the industry, yet they are charging us ridiculous amounts for a small number of episodes.

Look, the series its self is great, but please avoid buying it here at this price. Say no to greedy production companies. If the price is reduced I'll remove this review, but until then it stands.

EDIT: In response to people saying these prices are not expensive, I'll post several anime series which clearly offer better value for money.
SAO part one sells 7 episodes for 20 pounds.
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood Collection One Blu-ray (Episodes 1-35) - That's 35 episodes for 30 pounds.
Steins Gate: Part 1 [Blu-ray] - That's 12 episodes for 20 pounds.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica Complete Series Collection [Blu-ray] - 12 episodes for 20 pounds.

My point? Aniplex is clearly wanting to earn more profit by fragmenting a popular series into 4 boxsets, forcing a DVD/Blu-ray combo, and selling each one at ridiculous prices. Why didn't they split the series into two boxsets like almost every other anime, remove the DVD bundle like 95% of all anime HD boxsets on amazon, thus saving packaging+delivery costs? it's because they want to make more money, more profit, and exploit a dedicated fanbase. Lets be serious, who here will actually pay 80 pounds for the entire series?
