I did most of the French side this summer and found it to be spot on. You could be travelling to a town/city by train and reading about your destination, when you get there its totally like the descriptions in the book. Theres lots of background info on Swiss soceity/culture which helps you to chat with the locals by knowing their frame of reference.
If you want a good holiday in Switzerland you have to travel around and see the natural sights, this book is great for planning your itinery.
Only flaw I spotted was I was walking on a bridge in Bern that wasn't on the LP map and was lost for about 2 minutes.
If visiting, its best to buy this before you travel so you can do a day by day plan. I did and it ran very smoothly thanks to the LP guide.

I have used this superb guide for the last two weeks while travelling from Geneve to Zurich. I found the introductory chapters very interesting and the practical ones extremely useful. The town maps are accurate and we liked most of the recommendations we tried.

The book really ticks all of the boxes for us. For once we have a really excellent guide book that contains most of what a traveller needs, whether they be backpackers, families with young children, or well healed pleasure travellers. It is also up to date for 2010 and meticulously researched. Well done!

the writers never went to the places they wrote about. they just copied and pasted information. I went to join UN tour in Geneva, which was fantastic, but they just more or less had the address and opening time of the building and that was about it. other places are more of less the same. i went to a small town called morges, where audrey hepburn's last house and cemetry are, but the book has zero information of these either. please.. don't buy this book

Thanks Mark Honan for writing such a useful reference for travellers in Switzerland! The information inside the books are really useful with all useful telephone numbers, entrance fee infromation to museums...all the people I know who travel around Switzerland are all using this book..I think it's the best among all the travel books about Switerland....most important is that there's no advertisement content!!!! Even for small towns....it still provides detailed info about it, all the bus routes, train routes on getting there!! It's really high recommended for those guys who wanna travel in this place!

Like all Lonely Planets, this is a good guide to start with. But for a country-specific guide you think it would have more extensive sections on parts of the country and more off-the-beaten-track stuff that is not covered in a general Europe guide. Unless you're visiting Switzerland exclusively for a period of time, a general Europe guide would suffice to give you the info you need for a short stay in Switzerland.

The guide was very useful to me when I was planning for my switzerland trip. The maps in the guide also help me a lot when I was choosing my accomodations.
