It does look quite funky and I am pleased with it. It is a lot more expensive elsewhere (white is the cheapest colour I think but I wasn't going to pay double for it in red like I'd have ideally liked). I paid £30 inc delivery so not too bad. I'd give it 3 and a half stars rather than 3 but that isn't an option.
Our old DECT phones were well past their use-by date and I saw these in Switzerland in May 2012. They may not appeal to everyone but they did me. Beautifully packaged and beautifully made they were relatively easy to set up (took about ten minutes).
The handbook is not quite useless - but it does leave lots unsaid and that you require a modicum of intuition for. Transferring numbers between handsets (for example) is not clear at all - but it's workable after a few minutes thought and by having both handsets next to each other to notice that a confirmation on the second handset is required. Editing a number takes some thought too and I eventually discovered that using the fiddly side switch you can hop along the numbers or letters of a phonebook entry without having to delete the whole entry and start again.
One niggle is that I can find no way to input the + sign into the dialling stream - so I have had to edit out the 00 prefix on local numbers - which it refuses to dial. Not a problem - a niggle, but I wonder why it won't do what every other phone we have does as a matter of course.
The second niggle is that tiny control on the side of the phone that allows you to select certain things - such as the recent call list and the phonebook. It is tiny and a bit fiddly to use.
Sound quality is good too and having a slightly old-fashioned but modern twist means that both the mouthpiece and the earpiece are where they should be - next to mouth and ear.
Up-date - December 2013.
Having now used this in three different locations I can honestly say that it leaves much to be desired. Reception quality varies tremendously and the menu system has proved to be clumsy and difficult to manage. Many callers tell us that reception their end is poor and to be honest it is often poor our end too.
I could not in all honesty recommend this product - but still like the look!! I will however now replace it as the main use for a phone is for function not form!!
As for the functions, with today's technology, the functions are numbered. There is a phonebook, alarm, pager and a small choice of ringtones (which are not great).
The quality of conversation is strong with clear tones and adjustable volume. Distance from base is variable depenedent on walls but will easily get you to a second room.
Battery life is very good on standby - I don't stay on the phone too long to see if I can wear out the battery during a conversation, but couldn't imagine anyone having problems with this.
Overall, if you need a basic functioning phone that also looks good, this is the one for you. Marked slightly down due to poor choice of ringtones and slightly expensive.
The phone works really well.
My only niggle and it is to me, a design oversight, is there is no provision to redial / recall any previously dialled numbers
That said, its a very well made and quality device.
