I hope Swissgear has since improved the quality of their zips. Because when you buy a Swiss product, you expect QUALITY.
That said, we have Victorinox Swiss Army Knives ('SAK') and they like anything manufactured by Victoninx are absolutely first class. Alas, not Swissgear.
This backpack its the bill. The main interior is a large single pocket and has a padded bottom that can be either lowered or raised. In the lowered position it pushes out the backpack making he whole thing deeper and so more capacious. Raise the bottom and draw in the drawstrings at the side and it cause the back pack to become more shallow. The materials seems of good quality and the zips look sturdy.
There are plenty of pockets inside and out.
My only gripe (as pointed out in other reviews is the large eyelet air holes on either side of the rucksack. In heavy rain they certainly would let water in.
Since I do not like getting wet and am seldom walking in the rain, my solution will be to buy a pocket umbrella to keep me and backpack dry, it will fit nicely in one of the two side pockets.
There are lots of little pockets and compartments which makes organisation and access easy. I particularly like the thought that has gone into things like the top pocket for an MP3 player, wallet etc, with a port for your headphones, the water bottle holders, the two carry handles etc. Another useful aspect is that the bag is freestanding i.e. if you put it on a desk, floor etc. it stays upright, which is very handy.
A number of people have commented that they are worried about the large holes in the main compartment letting water in. Firstly, if the worst happens and they do leak they are not in the bit where your laptop etc. goes, so it would only be papers/books/clothes etc. that got wet (still not great I know). Secondly, I have been caught in a couple of downpours wearing it and haven't experienced any water ingress. I agree with the other reviewers though that I don't see why the holes are there in the first place and it would be better peace of mind without them.
The only negative, which is a negative for backpacks in general, rather than anything to do with this model, is I do worry about how easy it would be for a pickpocket standing behind me on the escalator at the underground to open the zippers on the compartments and relieve me of whatever is in there. I keep anything of value in the laptop section which would be the most difficult to reach and have fitted a small padlock that locks both that section and the pocket that holds my MP3 player, wallet etc (you can lock both compartments with one padlock).
So in summary, near perfect product, but when you are updating it Mr/s Swissgear please ditch the pointless holes in the main compartment and come up with some clever way of optionally securing the zippers to make it harder for pick pockets to open (I'm thinking some sort of switch, velcro cover etc. meaning it takes more than one hand/two fingers to open them).
Three great additional features are i)double handle for carrying while the bag is open ii) small pocket on the top which opens nicely for getting quick access to mobiles, wallet, glasses etc. iii) side pouches are large and deep enough to make use of.
Great value on Amazon and highly recommended.
Only downside is 6 big holes by the side of the bag in the main compartment. But I came up with a solution and fixed soft rubber pieces so that the holes are blocked, making it perfectly rainproof.
