Classic Family Adventure from 1976 with The Swiss Family Robinson This charming series features strong family value's as a family struggle for survival after being shipwrecked on a Desert island. Based on The classic novel and movie of The same name The series manages To convey warmth Throughout each story Though many of The episodes stuck To The same formula The family in Danger from The many animals That frequent The island The Half Hour format of each episode allowed other breakout episodes. Danger from pirates other visitors To The island even a science fiction element as a falling meteorite crashes onto The island endangering The family in one of The best and creepiest episodes. The inevitable will They or won't They as The family are about to be rescued episode you will have To Tune in To find out .This is one series were all of The cast work well Together a little mention should go To young Heather Graham who plays Marie The youngest of The Robinson's Three children who manages to steal most of The scenes she is featured in .The series was a Huge Hit when it first was shown in The UK I can well recall The series featured in The pages and on a full colour cover of The popular 70s TV Teen magazine LOOK-IN. Excellent production value's The series olso boasted one of The best opening Titles you will ever see for a TV series I Had forgot just How Good They are. It is well Documented That producer Irwin Allen at The same time was coming around with His new Television series Titled Swiss Family Robinson The TV Networks wanting To avoid any confusion insisted one show Had To go Hence our castaways here lasted one season. The episodes are spread over 3 Disc's with a staggering nine episodes on a Disc picture quality is excellent colours are rich and lush like The island scenes itself. should not be confused with The later Irwin Allen series of The same name and really This is The better version Timeless and charming and a Hefty five stars.

HASH(0x9901a780) out of 5 stars You want info? You got it... 11 April 2011

Format: DVD
The listing: The Swiss Family Robinson is the 26 episode Canadian series produced by Glen Warren Productions for CTV and premiered September 1976 on CTV. The stars as listed are correct. Each episode was intended for a 30 minute time slot. The set listed here is a 3 disk set from Image Entertainment and the only one currently in print.

The listing here: The Swiss Family Robinson (The Complete Series) is an earlier "out-of-print" release of this series. It's reportedly a 4 disk set from Morningstar Entertainment.

As to which release is better? I do not know, but typically the same material on fewer disks will indicate some compression issues although it's not uncommon for 30 minute series to have 7-9 episodes per disk as would be the case with the Image set. I'd not avoid it for that reason alone as Image typically puts out a good quality product.

The USA Irwin Allen series from 1976 on ABC with Martin Milner, Willie Aames, and Helen Hunt has not yet seen a DVD release.

HASH(0x9901a7e0) out of 5 stars The Swiss Family Robinson 14 Sept. 2010

This "Swiss Family Robinson" tv series is the best ever and there will never be another that compares. Great cast, storylines and beautiful scenery. Throw in family values, drama, adventure, mystery and humor and you have one of the best "Family" shows ever made. Every episode is interesting and exciting. All 5 cast members seem as if they were meant to play those roles. The actors who portrayed the characters were Chris Wiggins (Johann, the father), Diana Leblanc (Elizabeth, the mother), Michael Duhig (Ernest, the eldest), Ricky O'Neill (Franz, the middle child), and Heather Graham (Marie, the youngest). It is a Canadian import, which maybe gives it a unique flavor and is one of the most popular tv shows ever from that country. The jungle scenes were filmed in Canada and the beach scenes in Jamaica, so it truly is island fare. I remember watching this show with my family on Friday nights at 7:00 on channel 12 from Montreal, as I grew up a few miles from the province of Quebec. I was in 7th grade when it premiered back in the Fall of '73 and liked the show from the very first episode. I couldn't wait to see the next one. The only regret is that it only lasted 1 season (for reasons unknown to me) with a 2nd season of reruns before it went into the U.S. market. It brings back good memories from childhood. When I saw it was on DVD I was really excited and couldn't wait to watch them again, as I hadn't seen them in 30 years. The episodes have been remastered and the quality is very good. This really is a show for the whole family and a purchase one will not regret!

One of the better film versions of Wyss's novel.
The plots are semi-serialized.
The film quality is good.
Also good cast, and great island location footage.

This is the kind of show I love from my past... our past... I'm Italian and it was showed on Rai Tv in the early Eighties with an Italian title, "La Famiglia Robinson", the quality of the package and the discs is very simple but beautiful and enjoyable. Very good quality for the master so I'm completely satisfied. Now I'm waiting for Irwin Allen's other Robinson family...

The show has beautiful scenery and good acting. If I was shipwrecked this would be the people I'd want to be with. A great show for the family.
