Product Description

Product Description

Swing From Paris is an exhilarating collection by one of the hottest partnerships in jazz. By 1935, when eight of these 15 cuts were recorded, Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli had worked together for nearly two years and developed a near-symbiotic understanding. The turbo-drive engendered by a rhythm section comprising bass and two further guitars was such that a drummer was not only unnecessary but would also have reduced the octane count. Similar encomia apply to the remaining tracks recorded three years later and in all this is definitive proof of why Reinhardt was the first great non-American jazzman--a unique talent belying his handicap and overflowing with originality and lissom power. Particular highlights include the 1935 "Limehouse Blues" and "Moonglow" and 1938's "Them There Eyes". There's no need to sample: jazzers of all tastes will find the entire CD a delicious and durable treat. --Richard Palmer

Format: Audio CD
This essential collection of pre-war Django in the height of his Hot Club days includes his absolutely inimitable 'hammers' and 'slurs' and his captivating interpretations of many of the Stateside standards together with the very French addition to European Jazz at that time. This disc benefits from many of the modern remastering techniques, without losing the original vivacity of Django and Stephane's unmatched 'duels' on virtually every track! If this is your first 'taster' of Django, then buy this conpilation. If you have others - don't leave this one out!
