I really don't think Lisa or Ian (her hubby) had much time to get this done, as the songs needed to be IN the film that she was (probably simultaneously) making. If you know your Lisa, you know that her best stuff always comes when she's not thinking about it, and this baby is the ultimate proof! Maybe it was growing up singing in pubs, maybe it's Ian's influence, maybe it was her parents, who knows?? The point is that Lisa can sing ANYTHING in her sleep! If you like the standards, if you love the incidental whimsy that music takes on when it's geared up for a film (especially a small one....), if you're a fan of the soul divas but have no clue why anyone would listen to swing music-this is your c.d.!!
My only disappointment was the valiant effort to rework "Baby I Need Your Lovin' " ; it just won't work for anyone who's got Levi Stubbs ingrained in their noggin', but Lisa and Ian get points for trying.
The original song "Why Do We Call It Love?" will knock your socks off, and you'll SWEAR it's vintage 50*s London swing, but it ain't!
I can never do a Lisa review without somehow mentioning Dusty (that's a good thing, Dusty fans don't take such comparisons lightly, believe you me) and here is proof posiitive that Lisa is gearing up to be the heir apparent (if any ONE singer can do it, that is....). Those of us who have followed Lisa closely knew back when she did "Down in the Depths" (and made every big name of 1990 look like an amateur!) that a universal songstress was blooming before our very ears. Wish I could still go down a pub somewhere and see her live....

This Album just shows how versatile Lisa is, great swing numbers with a couple of vocal tracks by Georgie Fame.

I researched this film which apparently turned out to be a big flop worldwide.
Interestingly, this Album didn't do at all well in the British Charts yet reached the Top Ten on America's Billboard 100.
Maybe there are few Swing era fans left in the UK, lol.

Not much else I can say that the other reviewers of SWING haven't already said. A superb example of Swing music and the sound of the Big Band. I hope Lisa Stansfield continues along this road. If you are hooked, then I suggest buying recent releases by Jools Holland, like Sunset Over Broadway and Hop the Wag. You'll love every tune! (The link between Swing and Jools Holland is the saxophonist!) JC-J 05/02/01

From the film of the same name, Swing is a toe-tappin', hip-wigglin', finger-clickin' introduction to Swing music with some great tracks - in particular Mack the Knife. Although not a Lisa Stansfield fan previously, this soundtrack (and film) is excellent and she sounds fantastic. So go on, buy it and then get dancin'!

I inadvertently wrote the wrong review for this, as I had sent away for the film as well.
This soundtrack is lovely; Lisa S has a wonderful voice. I'm really pleased with this CD and the seller was prompt as always - never had a problem with them (sorry for being critical in sellers feedback, Zoverstocks, it wasn't meant for you!).

i was realy supprised how good this film is. it has good humour throughout, something for everyone to smile and chuckel at. If lisa made an album of this type of music i am sure it would be a best seller. The film is one that my wife and i watch at least once every ten days, it is one of those feel good movies with just the right touch of liverpool fun. 10 out of 10
