- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 February 2024Fabulous album full of toe tapping brilliance. Totally uplifting. Great mix of swing, boogie woogie and of course the fabulous creativity of The Rythmn and Blues orchestra. Jools is always a master on the piano and the pairing with Rod is great fun. I've had it on in the car ever since it came out and just smile all the way home !! Just what we all need !! Love it !!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 March 2024Mostly good old standards with one bad old standard (Tennessee Waltz). Band plays with bounce, as a good blues band does, Mr Stewart swings with enthusiasm sounds a bit like Louis Prima here also covers a Louis Prima number. An entirely cheerful record where clearly everyone was enjoying it.
The 13 tracks are variable length but average about 3 minutes each and on my cd (I have no space for 500 vinyls) some tracks almost run into each other, like an 83 minute cd. There are muffled exclamations at the ends of some tracks not explicable, not comprehensible, not edited out. And the balance between singer backing vocals band and, I think, tap dancers on one track is not carefully managed. Perhaps the vinyl copy is better produced.
The whole record is rough and ready but I still enjoyed it
You can tell I was brought up with the care with which the old Capital LPs were put together.
I have never before heard such boisterous version of Sentimental Journey and Love Is The Sweetest Thing. I even enjoyed the rythm and swing rendition of Tennessee Walz. They had also brought back the original Happy Go lucky Local feeling to Night Train which Jimmy Forest had made a heavy swing dirge.
Worth the money.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 March 2024Its a long way from Maggie May but Rod Stewart is still out there wowing the punters. Since his move away from "rock" to the American Songbook albums it's like he's had a new lease of life and revived a career that was starting to slide away. This new album With Jools Holland & his Orchestra is a great listen.. they obviously had a blast recording it! Every track is a winner as far as I'm concerned. If there's one thing wrong with this album is that at 38 minutes its a bit short and I was left wanting more.. and surely that is a recommendation in itself!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 January 2025The CD is great but damaged by our small dog when it was delivered. I had expected the usual hard plastic casing but it came in a cardboard case so easy for my dog to get his teeth into.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 January 2025I love love love this CD it's my kind of music. It has got me dancing all round the house and I'm 82. Fabulous beauty rhythm.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 December 2024I'm a Rod Stewart and Jools Holland fan and own many albums (mainly on CD) from each. I have a good Hi-Fi system and looked forward to having Rod, Jools and the R&B Orchestra on vinyl in my living room. However, when played I just thought Jools' ivories didn't really 'tinkle' at the top end and other instruments were not as crisp and tingley as I'd hoped. Maybe it was intended that way, but I prefer it to sound like the instruments are here and now. Immediately after, I played a new 50th anniversary vinyl edition of Bowie's Alladin Sane and it was a total contrast with faith restored in my hi-fi. Maybe it was because Bowie's was originally analogue - who knows?

Johnharro48Reviewed in Australia on 8 April 20245.0 out of 5 stars Rod at his best again
Rod back in swing mood and with a little help from Julies Holland. Some of the great "oldies" are proformed well, with full big band sound backing. If you liked his "American song book: series from a few years ago you'll love this new recording.
