Not since Ace's 1991 CD "The Chiffons' Greatest Recordings" has a label put out such a great collection of songs by this highly under-appreciated 60s girl group. At 50 songs over two discs, you'll be in girl group heaven for two hours. All of the group's biggest hits are here ("He's So Fine," "One Fine Day," and "Sweet Talkin' Guy,") plus every other Billboard chart entry (with the exception of 1960's "Tonight's The Night," which was recorded by a different group calling itself the Chiffons). But what sets this release apart from the rest is the dozens of rarities, B-sides and non-hit singles produced by the group from 1963-1975. Fans of the group will be relieved to learn that their unbeatable version of "What Am I Gonna Do With You (Hey Baby)," is on CD with decent sound, as is their Buddah songle "So Much In Love," (a cover of the the Tymes' hit). Another favourite "Love Me Like You're Gonna Lose Me," also makes a welcome appearance. Die-hard fans will love the fact that some of the group's best album cuts are included (even some from the rare 1970 album on the BT Puppy label), and even listeners who aren't familiar with the group's vast repetoire should appreciate great lost tracks like "Now That You're My Baby," and "Remember Me Baby." A few troubling things should be noted, however. Two tracks appear in demo form without warning. "Down Down Down," and "Thumbs Down" feature only Judy Craig's lead vocals, sadly. The former can be heard in all its glory on the 1991 Ace CD, but I don't believe the latter is available in its true 1966 album version elsewhere on CD. Also, while most tracks are presented in the cleanest audio possible, some lost master tapes mean a few others sound a bit rough by comparison.Read more ›

As the reviews at amazon.com(not co.uk) say this is a big disapointment. The work of these girls is so good and of such importance that a quality project was expected . We deserve better. Poor remastering with rumble and distortion prevents this collection being the masterpiece it should have been. The tracks in many cases would have been better extracted from the previous ACE compilation rather than the poor vinyl recordings used. There are however 2 reasons for buying this . One is the excelleent running order which allows the music to sit very nicely on the ear and secondly the rare album and B side tracks which we have never had on CD....Oh and the price is low enough to get these even though one reviewer claims they are recorded at the wrong speed in some cases. Many amateur remixers could have done better with access to the vinyl but at the price it is better to have than not have. Ken Charmer Spain

All the hits and more-the version of My Sweet Lord which shows their sense of humor-this makes all the other Chiffons collections redundant.
Years ago they'd have included the Big Deal recordings but as we now know this was not the real Chiffons but probably the same as Ginger & the Chiffons.
Nowadays collectors compile these sort of things rather than record companies after your money.
Incidentally He's so fine was copied by the late Ronnie Mack from a gospel song of the mid 30s called Oh happy day-the same one the Edwin Hawkins Singers revived 30 years later and its this public domain one George Harrison was inspired by

I'm not a serious collector so I don't know about the quality of the remastering and choice of songs included but I LOVE this album! The vocals and harmonies are just fantastic. There are plenty of fun, lively songs as well as more sombre tracks. For me the highlights include "Secret Love", "I Don't Deserve A Boy Like You", "Stop, Look And Listen", "Oh My Lover" and "When I Go To Sleep At Night"... and I could definitely mention more!

The girl groups in Phil spectors wall of sound era, surpassed most british
female artists and groups. Wonderful to hear again.
