The book started off really well, the first few chapters I was glued. Then it seemed to go slightly off the boil and I was left feeling slightly disappointed. It just didn't suck me in like I hoped it would. I think it is because this centres around the 2 MCs Hayes and Saylor. I like plenty of interaction from supporting characters. I just feel characters are better developed as we get to see multiple sides of their personality. I like faster paced books.
I was also hoping for more interaction between Hayes --> Saylor --> Mitch; Saylor and Hayes go to Mitch's wedding and there was only one altercation between Saylor and Mitch. So much more could've been made of this. I like my leading man to be dominant and assertive, I also like the jealous / possessive streak shown in the alpha MC and Hayes wasn't portrayed as this. He was just a lovable romantic guy.
If you like romance novels that are full of rainbows and unicorns then this one is definitely for you. It's well written and a great story, I just like my characters to go through hell before they get their HEA!
Sweet Cheeks is irresistible, cute, funny, hot, charming, sexy and just the kind of book that will make you wish for a childhood sweetheart in the shape of Hayes Whitley! He made missing Colton so much easier. As a top Hollywood actor he is SMOKIN hot and knows how to turn on the charm but it's what is under the layers that will have all the ladies and me turning into puddles! Sayler is the kind of girl that every girl wants as a best friend. She is adorable, funny and so damn stubborn but let's face it what woman isn't.
This story is one that goes straight to the heart and very quickly nestles there and it will NEVER leave. From leaving her ex-fiance, wedding all planned and just needing a bride and groom, running her bakery 'Sweet Cheeks' and then being invited to that exact wedding with his new bride to be. Sayler's life is hardly easy but I think that makes you fall in love with her even more. Enter Hayes... The pair together are funny, so damn cute and swoonworthy! And their story will have you devouring pages to get to the end!
I loved every word of this book, every page and the characters. The emotion oozes off the page, you feel everything! Losing yourself in Sweet Cheeks is easy and something you will gladly do repeatedly. I already want to start all over again!
Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
I love the Driven series, have re-read those and they are definitely in my keepers files, but its good too when an author moves into a new area, out of the "comfort zone" into a fresh venue.
I was pleased to see this one and I bought it. Yep, paid real money!
Between review novels and my KU subs a book has to have a pretty good suggestion that its one for me before I'll buy it, and with so many authors raising prices its great to see an established author keeping them affordable. This is still just £2.99 and as its one I'll reread that's great value.
As always with KB's books I love the characters, they feel so real, and of course the settings are perfect. From Saylor's shop to the extravagant wedding venue I could visualise them easily. .
I have to sday this though - I hated the title, it sounds so twee, but its the name of Saylor's bakery so it does feel better when you know that ;-)
She's a great girl, works hard, and is trying to build up her business. Then she gets That invite, the one to the wedding, which oddly enough mirrors exactly what she had planned when she was the bride....weird or what??
Who would want that, the wedding your husband to be was having with someone else...and then the invite gets returned by accident, saying she'll attend, armed with a plus one...
Then Hayes, film star extraordinaire, comes into the story. He and Saylor have a past, though its been years since they met, after he broke her heart when he left.
The banter between these two is perfect, the wedding scenes so real, and full of snark, and the hashtag parts I loved. Its got so much I love in a story here, great characters, solid plots, humour, snark, and lots of drama and sad parts.
Its a terrific read.
Stars: five, a fabulous read, from a favourite author that kept me engrossed for hours and will join the keepers.
Hayes and Saylor knew each other when they were teens, were first loves, friends, he was her brother's best friend, but he took her heart the day he left to follow his dream in Hollywood.
When he returns, we get the flashbacks of memories to those teenage years and I am in HEAVEN, these were oh so tender and just how you want those memories to be. As they progress in present time, well, the friendship can be at times hot and steamy and not just because of the tropical setting of the wedding!
Sweet, romantic, HOT and some great characters thrown in I am in love with this book. And Hayes even brought tears to my eyes in the last 10% how freaking sweet he was.
