Tony T.S. McPhee is the founder of the Groundhogs and this recording is a great example of his innovative live guitar playing and pioneering use of the Synthi Hi-Fli, which was the first true guitar synthesizer. Tony used the Synthi Hi-Fli extensively on the Solid, Crosscut Saw & Black Diamond Groundhogs studio albums between 1974 and 1976 and this Swedish Radio Masters Live recording from 1976 is an excellent example of the enormous range of sonic textures that T.S. was able to conjure from this device. This album features some of the Groundhogs all time classic tracks such as "Split Part 2" and an 18 minute version of the colossal "Cherry Red" from the "Split" album. Other tracks include the brilliant "I Love Miss Ogyny" from the highly under-rated 1972 "Hogwash" album and the burgeoning and doom laden "Light My Light" from the 1974 "Solid" album. In 1976 Tony McPhee experimented with using two guitarists on the "Crosscut Saw" and "Black Diamond" studio albums. This Swedish Radio Masters recording from 1976 opens with "Boogie With Us" and follows this up with "Your Love Keeps Me Alive" and "Live Right" from this dual guitarist recording period.

Tony Mcphee has long been overlooked as one of the all time great British guitarists particularly during the 1970's and has never needed any other guitarist in a recording environment. In 1976 Tony decided to tour with the Groundhogs using the two guitarist configuration. The result is excellent and gives Tony the freedom to improvise and experiment with his soloing. I highly recommend the Swedish Radio Masters 1976 album to anyone.

Originally the second disc of "Hogging The Stage" this is a far better quality recording from a 1976 concert for radio in Stockholm.Tony McFee tends to overuse his synthi-guitar a little but this is a good selection of material from several Groundhogs albums and is worth a listen.
