This life-changing book is based on the essential premise that Modern Western Medicine, driven by vested interests, is failing to address the root causes of disease processes. Symptom-suppressing medication and poly-pharmacy are resulting in an escalation of disease and a system of so-called 'health care' which is not sustainable. In Sustainable Medicine, Dr Sarah Myhill aims to empower people to heal themselves through addressing the underlying causes of their diseases. She presents a logical progression from symptoms to identifying the underlying mechanisms, to the relevant interventions, tests and tools with which to tackle the root causes of their symptoms.

A truly fascinating & informative book for anyone interested in their own health.
This is the second book by the truly wonderful independent Doctor Sarha Myhill.Dr Myhill has spend a lot of her professional years studying the health & workings of the human body, investigating scrupulously about auto immune disorders and what causes them.If you are genuinely interested in maintaining a good healthy profile for your own body then this is the book for you. It's informative, explains the workings of the body & health problems very thourghly and in an easy format for the non professional reader to fully understand. It explains a vast range of health problems & conditions and how to help the body protect itself and rectify your health in the easiest way possible, what causes the problem and how to help fix it. Supplements, vitamins all explained that the body needs to help you.I've purchased numerous books for my health that are gathering dust now! This book and Dr. Myhills first book are fantastic reads & study books for me trying to get to grips with my long suffering journey of ill health living with pain, ME, Fibromyalgia and a few more complications. There is also a wonderful website for Dr. Sarah Myhill which offers a wealth of information & files, there is also a web shop where you can purchase supplements as well as the books. www.doctormyhill.comI am not affiliated with Dr. Myhill, I came across this doctor doing my own research and was delighted to learn that this Doctor has published two books which have been invaluable to me now.I would highly recommend this book. I ordered both books in paperback formula so that I can tag pages and hi-light areas that are relevant to me.

Despite all that is written about Dr Sarah Myhill, she is a Dr who listens to her patients and uses her judgement regarding symptoms and patient history rather than relying solely on tests. An expert in her field of mitochondria dysfunction, Dr Myhill will use both conventional drugs if absolutely necessary but will also use diet and nutritional options in preference, to help her patients heal.
I owe her and simultaneously, my open minded GP a great deal of gratitude for giving me back my life and I have no doubt, saving my life; after 30 years of being demeaned and dismissed by so called 'conventional Drs, these two Drs have enabled me to heal my body and live a normal life; something which was increasingly impossible beforehand.
The majority of medical Drs these days rely solely on test results to diagnose, drugs and surgery to treat; despite a myriad of worsening symptoms and list which was growing as the days passed, 'conventional' Drs turned me away with no treatment simply because they considered my dubious results as normal. The so called 'conventional' Drs suggested my growing list of symptoms were psychosomatic or that I was simply lying about them. One Dr told me I should be in an asylum; despite the fact I didn't have any psychiatric disorder but because I wouldn't take Statins. He then proceeded to tell me he didn't even have high cholesterol but he was taking statins...tell me who is crazy,,, taking unnecessary drugs (Statins incidentally have horrendous side effects); and placing unnecessary financial burden on the NHS,?
My fabulous GP alongside Dr Myhill could see I was ill and consequently enabled me to get the appropriate treatment...the myriad of symptoms have over time, resolved and I am able to participate in normal life again...and more.
Regarding the book, it is insightful and for those of you who have a similar problem of failure to diagnose, this will provide you with reassurance that there is something wrong, but furthermore, that it can be put right again. Well worth reading.

This is a VERY important book, written by an outstanding doctor who dares to examine the 'whys' of illness and wellness.

Having been interested in Dr Myhill's work for some years, I know how very dedicated she is to discovering the many, often converging, causes that result in the symptoms we call disease, and that she is always on the lookout for the best available science to further that endeavour. And Myhill's intellectual brilliance is a force to be reckoned with! Make no mistake, other doctors could learn a WHOLE lot by listening to what she has to say!

Myhill's approach is, unfortunately, not what usually passes for medicine at this point in time. (ie. Give a set of symptoms a label, attempt to suppress those symptoms with a drug or twon that matches the label while mostly neglecting to investigate underlying causes...) Yep, medicine surely needs to be shaken up and Myhill could do just that. I hope she will get out there and do some radio/TV interviews... what she has to say needs to be heard so badly!

This book represents the medicine of the future. EVERY doctor and EVERY patient should own a copy!

A life-changing book. Having had so many poor experiences with conventional medics, this book makes absolute sense to me. It also gives everyone the option of putting themselves in the driving seat for their own health. Following the recommendations in this book, I feel better than I have done in many years. It's not a cure-all, and doesn't pretend to be, but for anyone who has struggled with their health and found medics (GPS and / or consultants) either unable to help or unwilling, this book could put you on the path to a better quality of life. Dr Sarah Myhill qualified and practised for many years as a GP so she has the medical background to be able to write this and that, to my mind, differentiates this book from many other books on the market. The title perhaps suggests an academic tome. That's not the case - it's very much written for the individual who wants to improve their own health or help to care for someone else. At the same time it shows up some real problems in the way our health system currently operates and errors in the basic concepts behind the practice of conventional medicine. Highly recommended for anyone with health issues, but particularly with digestive issues, ME or CFS.

The NHS faces a perfect storm. Increasing demands on its services, dwindling funds and huge pharmaceutical bills. Why are so many of us chronically ill? The sub-title of Dr Myhill's book is 'Whistle-blowing on 21st-century medical practice', and the first three words of the introduction are 'Doctors are dangerous'. Just as the established Church eventually had to accept that the Earth isn't flat and that it actually revolves around the Sun, so the established church of modern medicine is going to have to come to terms with the fact that most long-term medication merely suppresses symptoms and does nothing to address the root cause of the disease process. It keeps people ill in order to serve vested interests. The primary job of practitioners now has to be to empower patients, wherever possible, to take responsibility for their own health and well-being - for life.
This is an important book for practitioners and patients alike. It is sensible, straightforward and hugely readable.

A return to common-sense in medicine, how it should work. Unfortunately so many people have been brain-washed (and doctors too!) into thinking that pharmaceuticals are the way! The Big Pharma have brain-washed everyone, perhaps themselves too, into believing it is the only way to health. But is it good health?
This book goes back to the fundamentals of finding the cause not covering up symptoms. Brilliant book! Easy to understand.
