I think I'm still in recovery mode after reading Second Nature by D.L Roan.
The book is completely different from her first book in the series, Second Chance, and that draws you in further because you can't predict which way she's going to go with the storyline.
The book is angst filled and I think I spent the majority of the book with my fingers crossed and mutter prayers while I was reading. It affects you on different levels because you know that human trafficking is a very real problem and affects a lot of people all over the world.
I lived this story through D.L Roan's writing. I felt the emotions. I was on the roller-coaster with them all. IT takes a certain type of writing style to drag you in so deep you don't know where reality ends and fiction begins. I've read lots of books where I was doing just that, reading the words and they've been very monotone. Second Nature is far from monotone. It compels you to keep reading it, to keep living it, to keep emerged in it.
The characters that have been created are perfect! Thalia is a kick ass, take no crap, will beat you in your sleep for fun lead heroine.
After everything she has been through her spirit is far from broken. She's picked herself up and is focused on her sole goal, even if that means she's headed to her death. As far as she's concerned it's worth it. Grant, well we saw a bit of Grant in Second Chance and I didn't know what to make of him. I fell in love with him in this book and if there is a real life Grant out there somewhere then `yoouu hoo I'm over here!' Winston OH MY DAYS was he funny. I loved the scene when Thalia followed Winston into the woods and watched him imitate Grant. I was on the floor laughing.Read more ›
Surviving Redemption has all the ingredients for a great read - hot, steamy sex, HOT, hunky alpha male Grant, laugh out loud moments, (Winston!) nail biting tension and adventure with a few jaw dropping OMIGOD I didn't see THAT coming!! moments.
This is the second book I've read from author D.L. Roan, the first being Second Chances, where Grant Kendal first caught my eye. I knew then I was going to like him and boy, I certainly wasn't disappointed! Grant is certainly ALL kinds of hotness rolled up into a sexy package with a sensitive side well hidden living alone on a deserted island. Grant meets the beautiful, feisty and strong-willed Thalia when she washes ashore on his island stabbed, badly beaten and nearly dead. They both have secrets that neither are willing to reveal for fear of the truth being exposed. The chemistry between the couple is evident straight away and oh, my blood pressure nearly exploded, not to mention my ovaries when things heated up between the pair. I want my own Grant!!! *sobs*
Although the story is woven around a hard and brutal subject, human trafficking, the author still manages to create a brilliant action packed romance story filled with humour as well as on-the-edge-of-your-seat tension and harrowing heart break.
As I was reading I could see the scenes play out in front of me like an action film. Some parts of the book reminded me of Homeland (and I LOVE that show!). I was right there with the characters every step of the way.Read more ›
Bloody brilliant , wow I loved this book so much I read it in a day ( and I work and have two kids !!!!!!!)
This is the second book in the series however you do not need to read the first.
I have and the books are very different ( although they are both as good as each other)
We met Grant briefly in the first book and this is his story as well as Thalia's, Thalia is a tough bad ass heroine who has been through a hell of a lot. Thalia is beaten and stabbed , when she ends up washed a shore a beach barely alive and found by Grant.
Grant is also a bad ass but he is also kind , he takes care of Thalia. I don't want to give anything away , you need to read this book.
I love the style of writing and the book flowed very well, I hated having to go to work and not being able to read my book.
Would love the next book to be about Dex and Rebecca
Five stars ...
A few typos here and there, but an excellent read.

Thoroughly enjoyed meeting the 'good guys'. Definitely wished to be Thalia at times and hope that enough people read it to realise the very real evil that exists all around us.Published 5 months ago by Susiq7
