(spoiler alert) after reading the series do far - I was worried that this book might end up focusing too much on the mundane "planning a new society" type, but although this author is very adept at dealing with details of realistic and plausible ways in which society might try and pick juddering back up, it didn't dominate this book. There is still the right for survival and the zombies are still very much a threat.
After the last 6 of so books being written in a more traditional manner I was worried that returning to the three journal style would somehow spoil the story, but it keeps pace very well and feels very realistic.... I was concerned this was turning into too much like another series by this author that is a list apocalyptic crime thriller, but thankfully he has kept it this side of the genre. The level of detail and plausibility of all of the characters is well thought out, (no psychopaths with barbed baseball bats or pet tigers!) there is a blurred line between who's good and who's out for themselves with the right amount of susoence without it feeling like a murder mystery. And finally this book actually ends! By which I mean I'm not in a cliffhanger waiting to find out in the next novel, although I am very excited to continue to read on the story of survival, this book finishes satisfyingly enough.
Please continue this great series, all the best post apoc/zombie fiction or there - and I've read a lot!
Eagerly awaiting more from this author for xmas

I took a bit of a diversion from my usual reading material when I downloaded the first book in this series. The zombie genre is not something that would generally appeal to me but something about the cover of the first book (and the price) drew me in. Since then I have purchased and read the entire series and found to my surprise that I have been greatly entertained. I am now nearing the end of the current book (number 8) wondering what I'll read next. The books are broken into smaller sub series focusing different characters or groups of characters but sharing the series of events from differing but loosely interlocking viewpoints. Aside from a slight case of jumping around the shared timeline the books are well written, even to the point of using American spelling for American centred books and the correct spellings for those set in Britain. I have been a little lazy using the same review for the full series but as I said I'm lazy

The usual brilliance from the author. The immediate zombie threat is fading but how do the survivors cope with their safety? Can all be trusted? How do they rebuild a society?
This story goes beyond simple scare and gore. It deals with the human aspect of survival and strangers who share a horror but little else. With the horror abated true natures emerge.
I simply cannot wait for the next instalment

Read the first book as it was free to download. I was soon hooked by the characters and their journey. I wanted more. I have downloaded the subsequent books and three side stories now I'm keen for book nine.
Franks characters are well written and you feel you know them , you begin to root for them you become caught up in the narrative. Hurry with book nine please.

An excellent addition to the series, dealing with the challenges of the fledgling community. Good to see the relationship between bill and Kim expanding, this is one aspect that appears underplayed in the stories so far. Looking forward to book 9

Have been really enjoying the series. I do like the Zombie arena, some more than others.

I have continued the series mainly because rather than the "walking dead" style, where survivors are always running, always killing each other. This shows a different slant of rebuilding after

The editing needs a bit of work on this, there are still a few typos and words missing from sentences.

... and a good one too.

I have been working my way through this series and from the clever first few volumes through to the survivalist later stages have found this to be an interesting introduction into the zombie genre.

Roll on number 9.
