simply one if the best zombie novella on amazon!
I Have read allot of zombie fiction, and mostly I get exited when I have READ SOMETHING MEDIOCRE, WELL THIS JUST RAISED THE BAR!
quite simply, if you want to read the best zombie fiction around, this entire series is it. this particular story is different in its actual writing style to the other books which are more of a first hand diary of events, this is much more a straight narrative and in my opinion exceptionally well done. at first I was put off reading this (even after reading all three of the other books) as the description of the main characters and story arc didn't interest me, being about a retirement home, for some strange reason I thought this would mean the author would offer a boring narrative about the people most likely left behind in this world, well I'm quite happy to say I was wrong.
this series is hands down the best out there! I have trudged through an unbelievable amount of absolute crap within this genre and before coming across this series I had pretty much given up.
this is a great and fresh twist on the genre and is really well written with realistic characters and a really good balance of action AND consequence. I'm just upset that there isn't more as I've had delve back in to the mud of zombie books to try and find something to compensate as I wait for more from this author.

This is a great intro to the rest of the Surviving The Evacuation series, and features a character who is found in later books.

George Tull is a sixty-seven year old man living in a retirement home, the only resident there to understand what's going on when the outbreak happens. Although it's a tragic story it's also darkly comedic, as he describes his feelings towards the other residents (who he and his friend, Mary, referred to as 'the undead' before the unthinkable happened). Then there's the awful manager, who steals all the home's food for his own survival.

It's very well written, sad but with hope for the future. Definitely recommended; it can be read as an aside to the rest of the series, or a lead in. And it's free, so you have nothing to lose!

I had decided I wouldn't buy any more self published e books because - not to put too fine a point on it - I was tired of wading through badly punctuated, badly plotted drivel. But this was recommended and luckily did not realise it WAS self published until I was trying to find the second in the series. It has everything you need for a post apocalyptic world: scary zombies (growling, decaying, devouring), a slightly hapless protagonist who adapts to his new world and becomes steadily more likeable, abandoned cityscapes, Machiavellian political plotting. The diary format is engaging and well used to make the story scarily convincing and there is an impressive sense of building menace. The second book reveals more of the twisted political background behind the zombie infection and introduces new characters and I will be buying the final one as soon as it is out. Thoroughly recommended as a page turner.

George wasn't quite ready for a peaceful retirement at the home but he hadn’t bargained for the excitement of being abandoned to zombies. George takes charge as they run low on food and begins to make plans to get away, but with the undead trying to eat the living dead, will any of them get out alive?
The concept of this story is brilliant and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The zombie action built up slowly but came to a spectacular end. I’m looking forward to what the rest of the series brings.

I have been hooked by this series and want to read it all. This book is background to the story but I feel it could have been woven into one of the other novels rather than a stand alone book. At this point in the series (I have just read the 3rd book) I do not feel that the character introduced here added that much value but I am only half way through and may feel differently as I continue reading.

This book was ok - bit repetitive in some sections although I thing it blends a normal type of setting in with the zombie world very well. The book has been well written and the characters are likeable/unlikeable depending on who the author is describing. I would read the other books in the series.

Read this after books 1,2,3,4. It's OK , it is a mini book that read better for having read the others first because you already have met the characters in the main books. Enjoyed it , got it for my Kindle for free. Worth a read.
Not sure I'd have bought the others if I'd read this first.
