"If you have applied the tourniquet to yourself, do not loosen it - it there is another person present, lessen the pressure on the tourniquet every 10 to 15 minutes for a period of 1 or 2 minutes to resort blood flow."
First, I believe the author meant to say "restart" blood flow and not "resort" blood flow. But, regardless this is inaccurate and incorrect information to provide. If you loosen the tourniquet and begin to bleed for 1-2 minutes and you continually do this every 10-15 minutes you will have a cumulative blood loss which can be life-threatening. Current medical procedure states that you should not loosen the tourniquet.
The rest of the information in the book is way too basic to be useful especially for a book that in its title states, "The Ultimate Family Guide..."
Survival Essentials: First Aid & Survival Medicine: The Ultimate Family Guide to Surviving Against the Odds by Peter Black is too general and lacks too much detail to make it a useable manual. Skip this book.
Other books that I would recommend include:
Trauma Care for the Worst Case Scenario
Building a Trauma Kit
The Survival Medicine Handbook: A Guide for When Help is Not on the Way
SKIP this book.
Also, do not believe the "5 Star" review by Sophia which is clearly a paid reviewer with mostly 5 star reviews. If Sofphia actually read this book she would know it is not a 5 star book based on the information contain in the book! Unscrupulous!
