Ava followed her boyfriend to Singapore giving up on her dream of becoming a chef. He then decided he didn't love her after all, dumping her and sending her running back home.

Hurt like she has never been hurt before Ava hides from everything and everyone. She is broken by his actions, extremely down and doesn't see any way to get herself back up again.

Forced out by her friend Veronica, Ava finds herself staring into "the biggest pair of cerulean eyes" she has seen before, stunning her into silence. She is quickly introduced to their owner, Jasper, who just happens to be the singer in Passengers of Ego. Veronica's boyfriend Lucas is also in the band so obviously she starts trying to get Ava and Jasper together.

Having been hurt already Ava obviously doesn't want to get into a new relationship so soon, plus Jasper has a girlfriend anyway. However Jasper is extremely persistent in his attempts to get to know Ava better.

Ava irritates me a lot with her constant indecision about things. By the end of the story she has changed but for all the wrong reasons.

I read this story in one sitting, and by the end I was desperate for more! The ending? Oh my, the ending! It had me almost shouting at my Kindle.

There are a few minor spelling and grammar issues which I noticed but that didn't detract from the story at all.

This story is the first in a trilogy so there is obviously a lot more for the characters to go through. Judging from the ending, the next one promises to carry on the story well. I can't wait for the sequel.

I've been looking forward to reading this since I first read the blurb. I'm so happy to say it did not disappoint, what a Wonderful Debut from Monica James. I Surrender is a well written, emotive book with main characters with depth and a story keeps hold of the reader. I'm looking forward to the two books in the series and more from the author.

*I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.*

I have been looking forward to getting my greedy little hands on this book for a long time! All I can say is it was definitely worth the wait!

From the very first words out of Ava's mouth I knew I was going to like her, she had my own sarcastic sense of humour and I loved that. Ava is returning home from Singapore after being ceremoniously dumped by her boyfriend of four years, if that wasn't heartbreaking enough for poor Ava, Harper the douche decided the best place to crush Ava's world would be in a karaoke bar of all places! So just like that, as if the last four years didn't matter, like it was no big deal that Ava gave up her dreams to move to Singapore to be with Harper it was all over and Ava found herself on a plane home alone with a shattered heart.

Ava knows she needs time to heal, she also needs to find the person she once was without Harper and above all Ava has to decide if she wants to again pursue her culinary dreams she gave up to follow Harper. But lucky for Ava she isn't alone, she has her BFF Veronica or V as she is known. And with V around sulking, dwelling or dull moments were prohibited! I loved V straight away, she really was the perfect best friend! She was so protective of Ava and fiercely loyal yet she meddled when it was definitely called for.

Ava has been on American soil less than 24hrs when she is introduced to Jasper. Well if you can call stumbling, staring and blushing as an introduction then that's what it was!

I enjoyed reading this story. I started to get annoyed at her emotional rambling. But was glad of the reconciliation. The ending had a serious lump forming in my throat. So I'm looking forward to the next instalment.

I Surrender is the first in the series and we are introduced to Ava Thompson, the beginning of the book is when her long term boyfriend Harper has just broken up with her and she is travelling home to L.A and to her best friend 'V'. Now a book that starts with heart break is bound to be depressing right? Wrong! V is the light of Ava's life and her voice of reason dragging her out of her stupor and into her life. V begins by taking Ava to meet her yummy boyfriend Lucas who is in a band Passenger's of Ego (P.O.E) along with the hot Jasper. Now as in any other romance Ava and Jasper see each other and fall from there. Ava and Jasper spend the rest of the book building their friendship as a basis and this eventually (yes you guessed it turns into love). The rest of the series focuses around their relationship and the obstacles they face including people trying to break them up. Now the one bad point about this whole series is you are sat thinking why Ava? Why would you do that? Because as with other romance books the cause of Ava and Jasper's turmoil is her not telling him something thinking it is in their best interest - when is it ever in the best interest to hide something from one another - it isn't. And so this continues throughout the series. What I like however, is the third book they agree to spend some time apart and they want to leave it up to fate whether they are re-united and whether it works out for them in the end. I thought this was a nice thing to do as instead of their turmoil continuing they used common sense! The forth book White seems to have been written to finish up the story and tie up lose ends. There is a bit of tragedy in this one, one that had me tearing up just a little - I won't ruin the ending because honestly there was a short amount of time when I wasn't sure how the series would end.
