Forza Motorsport 3
Forza Motorsport is the Xbox 360's answer to Gran Turismo and returns in Forza Motorsport 3 as the most complete driving simulator yet.
This sequel's goal isn't just realism though but accessibility, with plenty of features to suit every kind of gamer and car enthusiast. Backed by breathtaking HD graphics and bone-jarring physics, players take the wheel of more than 400 of the most-beloved cars on over 100 renowned real-world tracks and exotic road courses from around the globe, while new customisation and sharing tools will further fuel the imaginations of the thriving "Forza Motorsport" community on Xbox LIVE.
Rival cars react to your every move, particularly if you get too close |
With hundreds of cars and tracks on offer the amount of choice could be daunting if not for the newly improved career mode. The game is able to analyse the way you play and the kind of cars and races you enjoy for the ultimate personalised experience.
The artificial intelligence of your rival racers is just as advanced, with some panicking if you get too close and all racing according to their own styles - not just staying stuck to the racing line. With an even more expansive suite of online options, all filtered according to your skill level, this may be the only racing game you'll ever need on Xbox.
Key Features- Real driving simulator: The most realistic driving experience ever, with amazing new features such as an in-car driving view and vehicle rollovers.
- Garage greed: Over 400 cars from 50 different manufactures, all rendered in greater detail than ever before and moving at a super smooth 60 frames per second.
- Track events: Over 100 tracks to race on, including the Le Mans course, and over 200 different events from circuit and drag racing to drift and timed events.
- Chauffer driven: Optional driving aids include automatic-braking and a rewind feature - which lets you retry a section of a lap whenever you want.
- YouRace: New online modes including in-game videos you can create and upload and extra livery customisation options and rewards for the best creators.
Xbox 360 Super Elite Specifications
Xbox 360 Super Elite is a sleek, customisable gaming and entertainment system, which measures approximately 3.3 by 12.2 by 10.2 inches and weighs 7.7 lbs. It's powered by custom IBM PowerPC-based CPU with three symmetrical cores each running at 3.2 GHz. It also carries a custom ATI graphics processor 10 MB of embedded DRAM. This is powerful enough to draw 500 million triangles per second. In other words, it makes for great looking games in standard TV definition, and even better thanks to built-in support for HDTV 1080i televisions. It also supports the widescreen 16:9 format.
The unit has a 12x dual-layer DVD-ROM drive, which plays both the game media and progressive-scan DVD movies right out of the box. For game-save and media storage this console package includes a 250GB hard drive. Along with storing files, the hard drive will make the Xbox 360 backward-compatible with part of the existing Xbox game library.
Control your Gameplay
Xbox 360 uses a refined button layout for its controllers. Back and Start buttons sit at the center of the controller and between them is a new Xbox Guide button, which instantly takes the user to the Xbox 360 user interface. From there, they can check for friends online, access personal digital content like photos and songs, and more. The black and white buttons of the first Xbox controllers have been replaced with new shoulder buttons placed above the left and right triggers. Xbox 360 can accommodate up to four wireless controllers and has three USB 2.0 slots to use for wired controllers or for streaming your digital media from digital cameras, MP3 players, and any Windows XP-based PC. Microsoft has also created a video-conferencing camera, sold separately, that will work with the system.
The Media Experience
All Xbox 360 titles can be played in either standard or high-definition resolution in 16:9 widescreen, with anti-aliasing for smoother graphics. Game designers will be able to take advantage of the system's multi-channel surround sound. The Xbox 360's digital media allows users to supplement any game's music from tracks in their own personal library.
Go Live
A built-in Ethernet port allows users to connect their system to a broadband connection for access to the new Xbox Live Silver. The included service lets anyone create a Gamertag and gamer card to express your online identity, chat live with voice chat, and connect to the Xbox Live Marketplace to buy expansions, maps, and other digital items for your games. The subscription service Xbox Live Gold adds to that online competition, game stats, and video chat/messaging. The separately sold wireless adapter supports the common 802.11a, -b, and -g standards.

Time for a new one I thought with HDMI, black in colour and a bigger hard drive.
Console is really great but makes a fair amount of noise.
Now a week after my purchase I see a new one is coming out next month which is smaller and quieter in operation and looks more elegant when on its side.
Back to this one.
Worked first time with no issues hooked up to my 1080p TV via my Sony AMP and HDMI (Note, HDMI cable is NOT provided so order a Amazon one the same time).
Unit comes with two controllers and one wired headset.
The first remote I tried was not paired with the XBOX, perhaps the other one was, so I had to press the connect button on the remote and console to get them to hook up.
Being a keen energy watcher and for those who care, the console in standby uses 1.7 watts of power which is about £1.61 a year.
In operation this value is between 50 and 90 watts depending on what the console is up to.
HD 1080p movies in via your internet connection and Microsoft Zune can also be watched on this console and after a 7Gb download of Xanadu I must admit in being impressed with the picture quality and Dolby Digital 5.1 sound (Current consoles only support Dolby Digital Sound but perhaps the new model will do more?).
At the current price with two controllers and Forza Motorsports 3 I think I made a good purchase.
I now download all sorts of demos and I install all my games to the hard drive. So far, not bothering deleting stuff unless the list becomes cluttered.
The game Forza Motorsport 3 is amazing. Best graphics ever and is so fun to play. The cars are almost real and the landscapes very good as well.
Overall I think this is a great purchase. I recommend.
I also decided to replace my first generation machine in order to get my hands on the exclusive 250gb hard drive as a larger hard drive is becoming more essential.(The 250 gb drive is not currently available to purchase alone and is exclusive to this pack and the Modern Warfare Pack). Because the new games coming out require higher capacity updates and saves. The higher drive capacity allows you the ability to run the game off the hard drive which in turn speeds up games access and loading times up. Also by installing games on the hard drive, it also protects your laser from wearing out and crashes occurring due to it accessing the disc. (Which Fable 2 is prone to)
The Forza game comes on 2 discs. One of the discs has additional cars and needs to be installed on the drive also included is a card to access additional cars and tracks that can be downloaded off Xbox Live. However disappointingly considering this is a special edition Elite Forza Pack. You do not get the Limited Edition Cars Pack. You also do not get a hdmi cable, but you can pick one up from 1.8M HDMI to HDMI Cable - Gold Connectors - For Use With HD TV's / Xbox 360 / PS3 etc
Also supplied when you log onto Xbox live and sign in is the standard one month membership for Xbox Live.
In conclusion if you want to future proof the need to install more games and downloads. (i.e with over twice the capacity of the current 120gb elite pack)
I would recommend getting this pack.
The Forza 3 game packaged in this bundle is absolutely superb. There are many, many tracks to race around, some of which are very complex and others are simply built for speed. There is more than enough tracks to cater for every ones style. To be honest I like them all.
Graphically playing this on a big TV is definitely the best way to get the most from the lush game graphics. Mine is a 40" full HD widescreen and the game plays superbly. I have to say I can't wait to compare Forza 3 with the PS3s Grand Turismo 5 when it comes out later this month (March 2010).
The Console itself.
The XBox 360, for me, is a surprisingly good bit of kit. The controllers work well but use batteries so I might invest in one of those rechargable packs sometime in the future. In this pack you get two controllers and a substantial hard drive with the console all in a very fetching black colour. I have to confess that I'm a PC man so I'm used to the sizes of hard drives measured in terabytes these days. However the hard drive in this XBox bundle is a whopping 250Gb. This is a massive amount for a gaming console. Even my top spec PS3 doesn't reach this.
I personally think that the connecting to the internet through a wireless connection could have been made more straight forward on the XBox. Inevitably I compare the XBox to my PS3 and where the PS3 connected wirelessly immediately (literally as soon as I switched it on) with my router it took me 4 attempts over 4 separate nights to get the XBox to hook up. Admittedly this may partially have been my fault as the WEP Key for my router seemed to have some unrecognisable characters in it. But with the PS3 I never even had to worry about this. Obviously now that I've had to change my WEP key for the XBox, I've had to do it for the PS3 too.
To sum up; with only a small glitch in the XBox set up, which could have been just me, I would highly recommend this particular package of the XBox 360 as the best one out there. If you're thinking about getting an XBox... ... don't! Just get this one!
