I want kids to LOVE math by playing with math
How does a hungry raccoon clean up behind a human picnic? If it's "Remainder Raccoon," simple division and practice with remainders will do the trick. Each game in this book presents math concepts (computation, fractions, decimals, geometry, logical thinking) in a fun, imaginative context. You'll find both competitive and cooperative games; individual, small group, and large group games to accommodate home schoolers to entire classrooms; multi-level play so that kids can achieve success and then advance to a more challenging level; and complete reproducibles with spinners, boards, pieces, markers, and more.
Here are a couple of my favorite games: Wolves and Coyotes: Use whole number inequalities and problem solving strategies to explore how two predators vie for the same niche. Very easy to learn, but can be played on a highly challenging level. Probability on Ice: A figure skating routine in which kids can opt for harder jumps and spins (and thus score higher), but run a greater risk of falling. Which would you choose--the safe, easy routine or the daring, risky one? Measure Hunt: Find objects that match various lengths of cut-out "bone units," compare body measurements, and use prior knowledge to estimate lengths. The more kids play, the better they get!
And 22 other fun games that transform "doing math" into "playing math."

This would be a lovely book for children to use at home too, to reinforce skills and concepts.
It contains black and white masters to photocopy in order to build your own board games. What I have done so far, is photocopy the games, color them and then have them laminated so that they can last longer. These board games are ideal for small group instruction or learning centers. Most of the games require not only the board and/or the dice, but a worksheet for the kids to color while they advance on the board, making the games even more engaging for the students.
The games are aimed at students between 3rd and 6th grades, and they all contain really attractive illustrations.
If you are looking for something fun to do with your kids meanwhile they are mastering mathematical reasoning, this book is a must for you!
