5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book! 11 Aug. 2012

Growing up in upstate New York, I have long had an interest in the the Iroquois. I have read alot of non-fiction about the Iroquois and the revolutionary war. Mr Winston did his homework and managed to weave an entertaining tale while still being historically accurate. The information he gives about the Clinton-Sullivan campaign is hard to find anywhere else. I highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating look at a pivotal yet overlooked piece of the American Revolution 12 Aug. 2012

Very well written book chronicling the Sullivan Campaign into the "Indian Country" of NY in 1779. What I loved about it was the intricate detail outlining the entire campaign. It was a very objective look at a situation which both sides had their triumphs as well a light shined on there lack of civility and humanity. Great work by the author!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sunset of the Iroquois 21 Sept. 2012

I have completely enjoyed reading this book and recommend it to any persons interested in colonial history. It is refreshing; in that it does not harbor judgmental views of right or wrong on the part of Indian or colonial army actions during the war era of the mid to late 1700's. It provides fairly accurate insight into Indian and settler existence through the struggles of our nation and her growing pains......right or wrong. Since living in...or very near the upstate New York regions within this book and knowing of the many places they refer to with such accuracy portrayed, I would actually rate this book in excess of five stars.....perhaps more like ten!
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent historical fiction 11 Jan. 2014

Since I'm a USN destroyerman like the author, II like the parts of the story that take place on water better than stories about landlubbers. So I thought the first few chapters dragged. However, once the story became waterborne, I loved it. This is a great way to learn history, and having spent time on Lake Champlain as well as in the Adirondacks, White Mountains, and Quebec, the story became real.. It is helpful to have a lake map available as you read this story, and it would be nice if the author could include some maps in all these books.
