I liked this book.

The storyline was nothing short of Lucy Diamond's excellence. All the characters face individual and joint challenges in making this summer one of the best summers of their lives in the memory of their father and husband. Nothing like an amazing family read full of drama.

I loved the main characters. Olivia Tarrant, the grieving wife who's finding it hard to move on after her husband's death, encounters a friend who will change the idea of a summer vacation for her forever. It's all about being fun, reckless, and carefree even after sixty! Freya Tarrant, the daughter who's finding it difficult juggling her three rowdy kids with her super-challenging job and a husband who's never around would also be admired. Harriet Tarrant-Price, the single-mother who's had enough of cheating men and is sure is living the dream this time around with a husband who's landed a huge book deal.

Other characters make reading this novel great as well. My very favourite, Gloria, a sixty-year old widow who's not stopped grieving as well as skinny-dipping.

I recommend this to anyone who wants a soothing family vacation read to cosy up to
this summer. I recommend this to anyone who wants a book with laughing moments and very relatable moments too. I recommend this to anyone who's a Lucy Diamond fan as she doesn't disappoint in this title too. It's all about being fun, reckless and creating a new you this summer!

The Tarrant family have always spent the summer at Shell Cottage. Many years ago, when Alec and Olivia were newly-weds, they discovered this wonderful little spot. They returned year after year, until eventually they bought it. They brought their children, who in turn, brought their own children. Shell Cottage is full of happy memories, a place to be together, to relax and forget about the stresses of everyday life.

This year is different. Alec died suddenly and Olivia is bereft. She has lost her soul-mate, her best friend, the father of her children, her other half.

When Olivia arrives at the cottage, her already upside-down world is shaken once more. She discovers more about Alec than she could ever have imagined. Her memories and beliefs are shattered, she's not sure that she will ever be mended.

Lucy Diamond has, once again, created a cast of characters that the reader can relate to, can love and can empathise with. A family with huge characters and lots and lost of issues. Each family member is precisely drawn, with their own traits and huge personalities. The reader accompanies each one of them as they travel through the summer and deal with a holiday that none of them will forget.

The Devon setting is perfect, described with exquisite detail that made me want to book a week in a cottage on the coastline immediately - and that says so much, as I actually read this novel whilst lying on a sun bed in Corfu!

Lucy Diamond's writing is warm and witty, yet manages to deal with some serious issues intelligently and thoughtfully.

Summer at Shell Cottage is another sparkly, glowing read from Lucy Diamond. Her fans will adore this one, and new readers will be delighted to find her stories too.

Summer at Shell Cottage tells the tale of the classic British summer family holiday, complete with BBQs, long walks, frolics on the sand, too much booze and shrieking kids. Only, this year, the Tarrants aren’t quite enjoying the blissful holiday they’re used to- relationships are strained to breaking point as hidden secrets and lies are aired in the summer sun. This holiday would go down in any family history as the most stressful two weeks- ever.

Beautifully told, from multiple viewpoints, Summer at Shell Cottage is a read that you’ll want to dedicate some proper “me-time” to, as you get to know the characters and get sucked in by their revelations. I think I fell a little bit in love with Olivia as I was reading- what an incredible character.

This is the perfect summer holiday read- if only to sit there with a smug smile on your face, knowing that you’re having a much, much more relaxing time than the poor old Tarrants - (or at least, I hope you are!)

Summer at Shell Cottage written by Lucy Diamond for me was not only a fantastic read but one I know I am sure I will return too as it was so well written I was totally involved in each of the characters' lives. Within this wonderful read there were so many surprises throughout and the only way I can honestly describe the full experience of reading this book was comparing it to being on a rollercoaster as with each page I read the storyline was going at full speed with many dips and hills throughout!

There were a few main characters within summer at Shell Cottage and they mostly belonged to the Tarrant family and like all summers they have come together to holiday in the solace of Shell Cottage. But this holiday is different and unlike any other holiday they have enjoyed in the past as the matriarch of the family Alec the head of the family who each of them was so proud of has died recently but unfortunately for Alec his secrets and lies unfortunately have not died with him...
But this is not the only secret ready to come out of Pandora's box as the family have to face not only life without Alec but secrets and problems flow like hot lava and knock each of the characters in so many directions they truly do not know how they are going to return to real life when this holiday has come to an end.

I loved this book mainly because of the characters they had me laughing with them and even crying with them as they grow with each day that passes and finally realise the man they loved and admired had a life they knew nothing about.
