Product Description

Sulphur-Tarot-Garden is a new soundtrack album by Cyclobe, recorded to accompany three alchemical dream pieces by the filmmaker and Queer activist Derek Jarman. Originally shot between 1972 and 1978 on silent Super-8, the films were recently premiered with their new soundtracks at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London. For this triptych of recordings, Ossian Brown and Stephen Thrower are joined on Sulphur-Tarot-Garden by Michael J. York, Cliff Stapleton and John Contreras. This is Cyclobe's fifth album to date, following Luminous Darkness, The Visitors, Paraparaparalellogrammatica and Wounded Galaxies Tap at The Window. Brown and Thrower were previously members of the sidereal musick group Coil. "the poets of the sulphur baths in seven crystal tiers star shaped, with the laughter of ghosts in its water" Derek Jarman.

HASH(0xa100d81c) out of 5 stars Fans of experimental COIL, take note... Get this and other Cyclobe. 17 Aug. 2015

The cover art is beautiful. The clear vinyl is beautiful, The two 12 by 12" inserts featuring a large still from a Jarman film are beautiful. The music is beautiful. Obviously, I'm reviewing the vinyl LP. As this is music made to accompany films, it is simpler and more repetitive than other Cyclobe offerings, thus the subtraction of one star, but it is still excellent electronic music on its own, without the film. Any fan of post L.S.D. COIL should get everything released by Cyclobe.
