So what is wrong? The story is not powerful or original - but that is the case of many a Regency Romance and they are none the worse for it. I just felt I could not really warm to the characters. Miss Grace DuPont, her beloved Lord Bennett Sheldon and the supporting cast all felt a bit like cardboard cutouts. There was no empathy. So although I did read right through to the end, I can't say this was a great book. (I did like Grace's trio of doggy friends, though!)
There is no reason why others shouldn't find this to be a light read - but, for me, it is not near the top of of the genre.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.
When the Duke of Silchester’s heir decides he must marry a wealth lady from a suitable background, unsurprisingly there are no shortage of candidates for that position. Grace is not one of them but is forced by her middle-class, ambitious father into attending the duke’s house party. Grace plans to use the event to find a husband – just not the one that her father is hoping she will attract.
Bennett Sheldon finds himself either furious with Grace or fiercely protective of her independent spirit. What he must not do is fall in love with her and risk the duke’s ire. Naturally, he does just that, leaving him to choose between his family, his position within society’s ranks and the woman he has lost his heart to.
Lots of twists and turns in this insight into the way the English aristocracy protects its own.
A fun read.

Unconvincing. Nothing feels right, story, period, characters, and especially the ending. Too rushed.Published 16 months ago by Katya Harris
