Firstly it looks great, designed as a faux leather suitcase which also has the advantage of making it easy to transport about and to store away when not in use. Controls are simple, and recording your records to a USB stick is simple - insert the usb stick, hit the button and the blue light indicates that it's recording. In addition you can also play things from USB on the turntable through the speakers, or connect a phone etc via Bluetooth. Tio round off the connectivity options there's also an AUX in for any sources you want to play through it that don't have bluetooth, in which case a good old aux cable will do the trick.
It handles 33 and 45 rpm as you'd expect, but also caters for 78s too so this could ideal for older folks like my father who still has a number of 78s that he is unable to play.
There's two speakers for stereo output, and the quality of the built in speakers is actually pretty good with plenty of volume available. However there is also an audio out (RCA phonos) to hook it up to your own amp and speakers, which if you are able to is always going to be the better choice.
Sound quality is good. Lets be honest, it's not going to rival your Technics 1200, or even the budget turntables like the PRO-JECT ESSENTIAL 2 for example, but that would set you over £220. In fact lets just say that if you have a lot of valuable records this probably isn't the deck for you as the problem with all cheap (ie under £100) turntables is they aren't usually good for your precious records. In a nutshell the higher cartridge weight means more pressure on the needle which results in deterioration of the record. However most of us don't have lots of valuable or rare records, and just want to be able to play the records they grew up with easily, which is why these turntables are so popular. It's all self contained, and there's no need for that amp and speakers - plug in and and you are off.
The only criticism I have is the MP3 encoding seems to be fixed at 160 kbps. I initially thought that was a problem but there's a site that allows you to do a blind comparison test between 160 kbps and 320 kbps to see if you can spot the difference in real life. I like to think my ears are pretty good (I make a lot of music for fun so consider myself a bit of an audio nerd) but I got it wrong half the time, so maybe it's not the issue I thought it was.
Looks good with it's faux leather suitcase and retro look
Simple to use - all in one so no need for external amp or speakers
Ability to connect to amp if required though
Ability to play other sources (phone etc) via bluetooth and aux in or USB stick
Plays not only 33 and 45 but 78rpm for old records
Decent sound for the price
Not so good stuff:
Fixed encoding rate for vinyl to mp3 (but see above - may not be the issue you think)
It's a cool retro looking portable turntable with built in speakers that makes it east to play and convert your records to MP3.
The unit came very well packaged in a HUGE box, which instantly being a man, I love big boxes being delivered! Upon opening it up. the design of the box (whether intentional) looks very 1970's, and in my opinion that was spot on!
This item was purchased for three reasons, listening to my vinyl collection (extensive lol), recording said collection into digital and outputting my vinyl to my bluetooth speakers around the house.
Now, everything advertised on this product was exactly what I wanted:-
Speaker contained if I just want to play my records without speakers - CHECK!
Able to record my vinyls to digital - CHECK! (added bonus is a USB plus directly into this device - one MAJOR reason for purchase)
Phono out for that retro speaker addition - CHECK!
Play all speeds of records 331/2, 45 and 78's - CHECK!
Bluetooth connectivity - CHECK!
It has many functions, even a USB music player - Ive even tried connecting an external HDD with music on with a USB cable to the device, and it plays them without fuss too - being able to control FFWD/SKIP/PLAY/PAUSE from the devices control panel is another bonus!
All this info is available on the product description, and I dont need to reiterate that fact, as if you are reading this review, you already know the stats of this player, and you want to know if its worth it? Well it is! Check my images and video for more info! Yes there are some reviews that say they received a damaged/broken unit, that happens with every product now and then that you buy, dont be put off by perhaps bad delivery drivers who have bashed the box around, my box arrived a little dented (as seen in one of my images) yet it worked fine no problems, the item is very sturdy, heavy, and can withstand a lot from the looks of it!
I uploaded the video to showcase the audio playback, lacking a little base, but even at loud volume it holds it own!
If I were you looking to spend some money on reliving your childhood, or you have a good vinyl collection, this product is superb at what it does, it looks awesome, sounds awesome, can burn your vinyl (including the spinning turntable click...awesome) to USB, I've been reliving Jeff Waynes War of the Worlds today, pure vinyl awesomeness!
BUY IT! You will not regret it!
