Both kids loved the presence of horses and unicorns in the book, and accepted the plot without question, but I did wonder as I read it why Sugarlump eventually settles with what she's given at the end of the book. Not that children's stories *have* to make sense, but the ending seemed a little odd to me.
I'd say that Julia Donaldson and Lydia Monks' best book together is The Rhyming Rabbit. Buy that before you buy Sugarlump and the Unicorn, but if you enjoy it then by all means buy this one too.
i brought this for my friends little girl
We have a joke calling each other sugar plum and by accident ages ago she called me LUMP and I've never let her forget it hehe
so when i come across this book by accident i had to buy it.
After many giggles about it.
Reading it was a lovely surprise to how nice it is. It has glitter on ever page and a lovely rhyme
Delivery was super quick to really pleased
The story is about a rocking horse whose wishes for adventure are granted by a unicorn. Each wish, though, leaves the rocking horse unfulfilled. Fortunately, the rocking horse does eventually find happiness and a role he is suited to.
The story is a bit more reflective, and storyline a bit more subdued, than some of Donaldson other books. So if your little ones are impatient for instant excitement and adventure they might prefer The Snail and the Whale, Jack and the Flumflum Tree, Superworm, What The Ladybird Heard, or Room on the Broom.
