Thirty. The Big Three-Oh. Over the hill.

Once upon a time, thirty was a really big deal for a woman. I used to hear how women dreaded it, how they didn't want to get old, how thirty meant they were past their prime.

I'm thirty-four. Thirty, honestly, wasn't a big deal to me. It was another number, another tally mark symbolizing how long I've been on this planet.

Dani, thankfully, learned that lesson by the end of this story. Her outlook doesn't start out all positive and sunshine and rose gardens. Her life, according to her, is pretty bleak. She's a total workaholic who cherished her privacy so much she's kind of a loner at her job. But where, exactly, have the long hours and job dedication gotten her? What have they gotten her?

Not where she wants to be or what she wants to have.

This isn't about finding lust and love with the most unlikeliest of people. It isn't about hot sex and commitment. It isn't about acquiring a new moniker, although "Sugar" ranks up there with "Sweetheart" when it comes to pet names bestowed on one by a lover. See, for me, this a tale of self-realization and self-discovery.

Whatever road you're on, you don't have to stay on it. Dedication, devotion, loyalty, etc., are all incredible things to have and feel for a job. But make time for what matters: family, friends, love, interests. It isn't always about getting ahead. It isn't always about always coming out on top.

It's also about doing for you.

Oh, and remembering, acknowledging, and accepting age really is just a number.

...my age doesn't define me as a person or how I feel. It's just the chronological representation of my ears on this planet and nothing more. My age is not who I am.

HASH(0x9cb3d1a4) out of 5 stars Short, Savvy, Sweet 23 Mar. 2016
By Ara the Booksnake - Published on Amazon.com
Sugar is the definition of short but sweet. This won't give readers that heart-gripping pain some romance novels with deep-rooted issues offer, but this will put a smile on your face and make you sigh and giggle a few times.

The main characters, Danielle or Dani and Connor, are both very entertaining and amusing. They're complete opposites yet complement each other a ton, and their chemistry is explosive. Danielle has a very colourful train of thought, which we all have access to because Sugar is written in the first person (which I prefer). She's confident and insecure at the same time, independent but yearns for that day she can depend on someone, and tough but soft-hearted as well. She's a contradiction, but she knows all her strengths, weaknesses, and flaws. Being with Connor didn't mean she had to change who she is, she just had to embrace a better and happier lifestyle with less work and more play, less stress and more relaxation time. Can I just point out how much I love Connor; he's such a fun guy to be around with. Even if he's not your boyfriend, just to have him in your life is awesome, I think. He's witty, charming, a bit cocky, and can hold his own--all of which are great traits.

The story flows easily and the book runs at a good pace. I guess there were a couple of times I got exhausted with Dani's thoughts. LOL! I'm sorry, it was just so detailed and long, I feel like the pages could've been used for other scenes.

Anyway, overall a good, quick read that all those into cute, easy love stories will enjoy. I give this a good 4 stars and recommend that ya'll pick up a copy over at Amazon.

HASH(0x9cb3d174) out of 5 stars She is happy with her career 18 Mar. 2016
By Danielle @Short and Sassy Book Blurbs - Published on Amazon.com
3.5 stars

Cute short story about Danielle who is having a mid life crisis about turning 30. Let's be honest, most of us have been there. Danielle is not where she thought she would be at 30. She is happy with her career, but her lack of social life is bumming her out.

Just when all hope is lost, she literally runs into Connor who makers her feel things she hasn't felt in well... forever. Now she has thrown caution to the wind to see where this new relationship takes her.

Connor seems to be just what she may have needed!

Sugar was a cute fun read about Danielle, who is realizing that her life isn’t quite what she expected it to be at 30 years old. I absolutely loved Danielle, she was easy to relate to. Most people can relate to the fear of turning thirty, I think that is part of the appeal to the story. There was passion and humor. Sugar was a great read, and I can’t wait to see what we get in the next short in this series.
