About the Author

Raven ShadowHawk is one face of the author who writes fantasy and horror under a second pseudonym. She is, according to most . . . okay, according to herself, the fun one of the pair. Living in Leicester, UK with her partner (the Funk Master) and twin sons (known as Sprog1 and Sprog2), Raven writes erotica ranging from sensual and romantic to graphic and totally PWP. Her interests include badly produced porn, chocolate, dressing up (particularly in matching underwear) and shouting at women who wear stupid shoes and/or skinny jeans. Within the first two sentences I new that Sugar Dust was going to be introducing me into a world that I no nothing about. A world of cages, chains, plugs, and safe words. This is the world that Karen and Dan are immersed into.

Sugar Dust follows the relationship of Dan and Karen and the issues that they deal with as a BDSM couple at night and a social worker and PHd student by day. The story is primarily told from Dan’s point of view but we do get a little insight into Karen’s frame of mind from time to time.

I feel that unlike other books that I have read the connection just wasn’t there between the main characters. The further that I got into the book the more forced the relationship became. You should want to be with your partner and not feel like it is forced in a relationship. Yes this is a book where the Dom/sub relationship is at the forefront, but that does not mean that respect and feelings are not a part of the relationship.

My biggest issue is the character development of Dan. I just don’t feel like he was given the proper attention that he needed in order to see him grow, the way that I believe he needed to grow. In the end I was left wanting more. I didn’t get the closure that I look for at the end of a story. Dan and Karen appear to get their HEA but there were a lot of things towards the end of the book that still left me with questions.

Sugar Dust is not my usual type of book, but I’ll try anything once. The story was well written but toward the end of the book it seemed rushed and a little forced. With that being said I give Sugar Dust a 3 rose rating of Rose in Bloom.

HASH(0x9a3b64d4) out of 5 stars Good Read! 28 Jan. 2015

This is the first book that I have read by this author and I'm sure it won't be the last. I won't tell the storyline but I will say that it's a good one. I enjoyed the hero and the heroine but the hero's mother got on my last nerve. You just wanted to slap her. I think that anyone would enjoy having this book in their library.
