Product Description

Review

This delightful little treasure gives detailed but easily understood instructions on how to produce whimsical sugar models of 20 breeds of dog.-Cake Craft & Decoration A must-have new book for the sugarcrafter's bookshelf from Search Press. Frances McNaughton has turned her sugar magic to dogs and puppies this time round, creating 20 fantastic sugar models featuring all the popular breeds. So whenever you asked for a cake for a dog-lover, you can create a sugar replica of the exact breed requested, which will surely impress your customers. And at only GBP4.99, it's amazing value for such a great little resource.-Cake Geek Magazine The latest book in the "Twenty to Make" series is Sugar Dogs by Frances McNaughton, which seems like a natural addition to the range since Frances has already authored Sugar Animals, Sugar Faries, Sugar Birds, Sugar Scaries, Mini Sugar Bags and Mini Sugar Shoes and Chocolate Animals in the same series. Maybe it's because I'm a dog-lover that this book is my favourite to date, and the difficulty for me is in choosing which to have a go at making first as they are all so cute. Frances has simplified making the dogs as much as possible, so that even beginners without lots of specialist equipment will still be able to get good results, but the book isn't just amateurs as even more advanced sugarcrafters will be able to pick up some useful tips. I was interested to see her use of sugar candy supports for legs, as it's often difficult to get animals to appear to be standing on thin legs with relatively heavy bodies. These sugar candies are what were called sweet cigarettes when I was younger, which are now politically incorrect, so have been re-branded as sugar candy sticks, and they don't have the red end, so they don't resemble cigarettes anymore - which is good, as for the dogs you don't what them to have the red ends. Frances does explain that you can make your own sticks from modelling paste and leave them to dry, but using the ready-made ones will save time. What I liked about this idea is that it means the dogs are completely edible as I've seen so many other books using dry spaghetti or even wooden or plastic supports which could cause choking. As well as finished pictures of each dog, there are also photos of each stage of the construction, so you get an idea of the proportion that all the pieces should be before they are assembled. So whether you prefer smaller dogs like Bichon Frise or Yorkshire Terrier or big dogs like a Great Dane or Dalmation, then there's probably your favourite in the book, or certainly there's enough information to adapt one of the 20 different breeds featured to look like your favourite pooch.-Woman's Weekly Recently voted the No. 1 book in all of Amazon's Cake Craft and Sugarcraft titles, this delightful little treasure gives detailed but easily understood instructions on how to produce whimsical sugar models of 20 breeds of dog.-Cake Craft & Decoration Sugarcraft expert Frances McNaughton has designed twenty wonderful sugar dogs from a Labrador puppy to a Great Dane to make using simple techniques and readily available ingredients. In this book, she shows how to make adorable sugar dogs for cake decorating using sugarpaste and a few simple tools and techniques. Learn about the materials and toolsthat are needed and then go on to make twenty popular breeds of dogs including Border Collie, Dachshund, Bichon Rise, Bassett Hound, Dalmatian, Kind Charles Spaniel, Poodle, Shitzu, St Bernard and Yorkshire Terrier. All the models are recognisable as particular breeds with plenty of humour and character built in. - Craft Focus

Made this snow dog puppy for my cousin with my food tech teacher. I will never forget the moment that I gave it to her :) the instructions will possibly need to be narrowed down for younger students but it is a BRILLIANT book and I would recommend it:)

Brilliant book. I am a total novice at sugar craft and I found the step-by-step instructions easy to follow. All is explained very well and my dog figurine actually looked like the dog it was meant to. I can't wait to try making different dogs.

A good book for getting the basics down for making sugarcraft dogs...some of the modeling isn't what I would have expected, as it seems a bit unprofessional, but the ideas would give anyone wanting to start to make their own models a good start.
