Format: Paperback
Tackling key British films of the past decade, from mainstream to low budget films and addressing the social, economic and political contexts, this is an interesting and informative read and well written. The book is well researched with detailed analysis of film texts, and gives a good overview of the production context of the era as well. Studying British Cinema manages to cover a great deal from addressing the monster that is the Harry Potter Franchise, the successful Working Title productions to the gritty realism of Red Road, and the new crop of British horror for example Eden Lake and more besides. This should assist film students by giving them a strong sense of what was a really solid decade for British Films. The book should also be of interest to the cinephiles or even just casual readers. Recommended.

Little more than an impressionistic overview of the decade. Lacks any real research or insight into the production of the films referred to. Also displays a lack of knowledge in terms of both film history and the film industry when describing contemporary changes and issues.

Avoid it and instead seek out more thoroughly researched books or journalistic articles on similar topics.
