An Excellent Compilation of Studio One Artists
on 10 February 2001
This is an incredible compilation of artists and styles from the Studio One label - the most important label in Jamaican music history. There is not a single track on this album that doesn't kick. There's everything from Horace Andy's sweet "Skylarking" to the funky instrumental of the Brentford Allstars "Greedy G" and Lennie Hibberts "Village Soul", the dark Ska of the Skatalites "Pheonix City" and the moving roots of "Truth & Rights" by Johnny Osbourne and Hammond organ excellence of Jackie Mitoo. Even if you have only a slight interest in old reggae get this album and you will never regret it (be warned though because once you've openned up the gate to reggae you'll never be able to shut it).
