Our special single origin wet processed coffee comes from the island of Java.

Over time, they managed to create a plant that not only could thrive, but whose caffeine content was exeptionally high.
This wakes you up like nothing else!
...and the Italian expertise
A cleverly designed medium italian roast, engineered by Italian master coffee artisans, mantains intact the rich naturally strong caffeine content and the fine grind enhanches the effect to grant the morning boost you deserve.

I have been drinking Silat for one week now replacing my usual morning french press or cafetiere produced coffee. I've been grinding coffee beans and using a cafetiere for decades now as I'm not a big coffee drinker but I do appreciate a good cup of coffee only once, sometimes twice a day and cannot be bothered messing about with coffee machines of any kind although my kids love coffee capsules!
I'm not sure about the time between roasting/grinding and getting it to me but it's very fresh and smells fantastic upon opening the bag. The coffee came in a nice thick foil lined resealable bag to prolong freshness. It hasn't lost any of it's flavour in the week I and others have been using it. You get 1lb or 454g of ground coffee here.
I've tried loads of different kinds of coffee grinds over the years and do like a stronger but not overly bitter coffee. Non of this caffeine free rubbish for me thanks! As I don't drink much - I do feel the 'kick' when I have a strong cup.
Silat (Indonesian for lightening) is a Java grown Robusta coffee bean that has been medium roasted to keep as much of the caffeine as possible therefore giving the drinker a caffeine hit to kickstart the day or keep you going. Everybody has different tastes of course so this is my take on Silat.
Personally, this is how I make a cup of coffee using Silat . . .
I use the rule of around 20g (a big heaped dessert spoonful) of coffee grind per cup.Read more ›
Well packaged, good price , what can I say ? It has made even the worst Cumbrian winter morning almost bearable .
This is an Italian ground coffee which comes in a larger than normal bag. (450 grams rather than the 250 grams.)
It's a pleasant coffee which is far superior to Costa Roast and Ground Coffee 200 g Bag (Pack of 10) but is slightly more expensive.
It's not as good as Illy Classic Roast Ground Coffee 250g (Pack of 2) which I consider one of the best coffees.
Historically, ground coffee was sometimes a blend of arabica beans (lighter, delicate flavour), then often added the cheaper robusta beans (body, bitterness).
100% arabica coffees are common, and there's a growing trend of sourcing from a single country or region.
This coffee simply states "pure java washed robusta."
I'd prefer to know if it's Ugandan, Ethiopian, Colombian, Peruvian. I don't know. (April 2015)
UPDATE: I'm told it's the island of Java. My mistake as I hadn't realised that there was an Indonesian island called Java.
It'll give you a hit in the morning and it's not an unpleasant coffee at all.
There's nothing particularly with this coffee that would make me change brand. It's not disappointing it's just not better than Illy. However it's much better than many.
If pushed I'd say this is ideal for after dinner and first thing in the morning.
Initially I was unimpressed, thinking it's simply another coffee. However, now that I'm towards the end of the large bag I'm thinking of ordering more.
It's a little overpriced with it's RRP but it's definitely worth buying if it's on a 'special offer.'
It`s very strong in caffeine for sure, and less dark than many continental Arabica`s. I`m into my second bag of it now, and I`m getting better and better at the process it needs. I usually have syrup sweetness with my coffee, I tried this without any and it was much sweeter than I thought it would be and happily proceeded to drink all in my mug. It`s creamy in texture and not a lot is needed to raise the pulse rate.
I read all previous reviews, seems I`m at odds with the ones that said this is not 5 star! Tasteless people? rival company?
So, this was my first ever Robusta, I will drink it in preference to Java Lava and the instant ones that I still like as Alta Rica is.
