One man`s experience of the horrors of the trenches of the First World War. Much of the time it took a long time to decipher the text because of the very poor proof reading. Don`t waste your time and money on this book. It is also very short, more a pamphlet than a book.

I could have been put off by other reviews but I am glad I downloaded this book, I have done research on ww1 and reading this it gives a true account of what happened, its an ordinary man's diary not an officer telling of the real hardships, yes its not proof read but it adds to its authenticity, its short but I give it 5 stars you really cannot put it down, I salute these very brave stretcher bearers.

This a short but excellent account of a stretcher bearer's lot. These people may have been unarmed but they were as vulnerable, if not more so, than the fighting soldier but not necessarily appreciated as they should have been. Carrying stretchers at head height through mud and worse, under fire, is not to be recommended, unlike this account.

This is a short, down to earth account of life as a stretcher bearer but there is little in the way of medical detail.

I've never before read a Stretcher Bearer's account of what went on in those murderous Trenches when the boys all went in there smiling - only, mostly, to be shot up and horribly injured (on both sides) and it is worth reading if only to see that the S B's took their share of the horrors and injuries they previously tried to help with.

A very good read. It is unusual to read a clear account of what it was like to be an unarmed member of the Forces in such a terrible war. To be able to go into No Mans Land to recover the wounded and to carry them back to treatment centres required more than average bravery..

Interesting and informative regarding stretcher bearers life - made me realise that life for these soldiers was just as horrendous as the front liners
