Product description

Review

"Youth are seeking to discover who they are, and the StrengthsExplorer can be a valuable resource for them and their parents. Based on current research on human strengths, the StrengthsExplorer invites young people to learn about their unique talents and skills in a way that is positive, thought-provoking, and relevant to everyday life."
-- Ross A. Thompson, Ph.D., Department of Psychology, University of California, Davis"The StrengthsExplorer showed me my Top 3 strengths and they were so right! It was like the computer knew me."
-- Grace Mussman, Age 10

"StrengthsExplorer was easy to take - not too long, not too short, just right. I showed my Top 3 strengths to my parents."
-- Trevor Reimnitz, Age 12"My two sons took StrengthsExplorer, and it really helped affirm their uniqueness. So often they compare themselves to each other, but this tool really helped them understand how they are wired differently, and how they think differently. It helped them gain a better understand of themselves and their natural gifts."
-- John Reimnitz, Parent

"Because of StrengthsExplorer, we have become more attuned to seeing what our students do well and we are helping our students become aware of their wonderfully unique qualities."
-- Cathy Deslavo, Principal, Wegner Middle School, Girls and Boys Town"I think the StrengthsExplorer has provided students with a common language and understanding of not only their personal strengths, but the strengths of their classmates, teachers, and administrators. The StrengthsExplorer process affirms that everyone has things at which they excel... and verifies things they may have already noticed about themselves and others. It has been exciting towatch the kids interact with each other and the teachers using the common StrengthsExplorer language."
-- Aaron Zabawa, Assistant Principal, Culler Middle School

"What would happen if we make the most of the strengths of our youth? Now, we can find out. The Clifton Youth StrengthsExplorer, building on the successes of the Clifton StrengthsFinder, names the strengths that makes each person special. Every student should have a chance to take this measure."
-- Shane J. Lopez, Ph.D., Department of Psychology and Research in Education, University of Kansas, Lawrence"Actively exploring one's capabilities and strengths is an important developmental task during adolescence. StrengthsExplorer is a very useful tool that can help youth in this process of discovery and development."
-- Maria de Guzman, Ph.D., Department of Child, Youth, and Family Studies, University of Nebraska, Lincoln

My two daughters have done this and, as their Dad, it makes interesting reading. Great for helping you to focus your parenting energies on your children's strengths.

Format: Paperback
Was ok but lacked detail with the results and the youth strengths were rather broad compared to the adult version

5.0 out of 5 stars Great way to get to know your child! 11 Nov. 2010
By HSmom - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Strengthsexplorer is a great way to get to know your child better and be able to parent him or her in a more effective way. It seems simple when you get the materials but if you dig into it and follow the directions for the youth and adult, you will get an amazing experience. Make sure you allow the child to take the online "quiz" without your guidance. Make sure they know to be completely honest (no one will see their test, ever, even they won't see their responses again). If they are not honest, they will not get the correct outcome of their top 3 strengths. I love this program, I took the adult Strengths Finder as part of a Life Group class at church and have really found it helpful for myself. I am so glad I had my son take the child version. It really encouraged him to know I was trying to find out more about him and he really felt the results described him. I was surprised by one of his strengths, it explains his reaction to situations and will enable me to be more effective with him!

I did StrengthsFinders at work 10 years ago and it was a great experience. I bought the version for kids for my 11 year-old. The material doesn't have a lot of depth. The top 3 were helpful for my son to see how to use his strengths and how they are important. I would prefer to see what the other strengths are to help him see what else is out there.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good for kids entering middle school 10 Jan. 2016

Basic for a 11 year old but useful none-the-less. Entry to middle school is a great time for a child to realize his/her strengths.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK, just wish we had bought the adult version for our 14 year old 5 April 2013

This would have been fine, but we opted to buy this for our 14 year old son and we found it was slightly too juvenile for him. We should have let him take the one for adults.
5.0 out of 5 stars I bought this because I love the Strengths Finder for adults 30 Aug. 2015

I bought this because I love the Strengths Finder for adults. The children's version is just as great. My son loved reading about his strengths and I enjoyed the tips for parents!
