The reason I feel that the map is a product of some thought is that it perfectly had all the things I would what to see in the city and did-galleries, museums, temples shrines, location of my Hotel, underground train routes, parks, train stations. The map has easy to use key and more detailed maps of the main tourist areas.
The only reason I don't give it a five is that its out of date and I found one gallery to be in a different location to that on the map.
My planning for the trip really was really close to zero and I could operate as a very effective tourist with this map. Otherwise I would have to use my lonely planet/rough guide to extract information which would involve lots of flicking through to their pages. I first used the map and then the guide. Without the map I would had be cumbersome (slower) in making tourist decisions.
The free tourist maps available are excellent however the are larger, harder exgtract information from, and don't have all the information (all tourist that interest me sites clearly marked) that I used on this map.
Waterproof and small.
Each 'ward' has it's own map section, but the wards are not located next to each other on the map. You get to the end of one ward, and you need to turn the map over, flip it around and even then it's not clear which ward should align with the previous one. You can look on one ward and see an attraction you wish to visit, but then you need to find that ward on the larger map and then try to late the same attraction.
It would have been far easier to keep the great detail of the smaller ward maps, but just align all wards correctly.
I wouldn't recommend, unless you are familiar with Tokyo already.
I wouldn't call it 'laminated', I'd call it 'shiny';
apart from that it's a handy map: folds and unfolds and fits a larger pocket

The perfect map for getting around Tokyo as it wont tear when repeatedly opened and folded.Published 8 months ago by Helen Rawson
Very good quality map. However I have not used this map in Tokyo. In my opinion the only option to find place in such a mega city is google map, Internet and navigation.Published 9 months ago by Amazon Customer
