Product Description

About the Author

Julian Davies, age 38, is an ex-heavyweight boxer who now trains and coaches youngsters in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales. His fascination with fighters goes back as far as he can remember. He once entered the HardmanUK fight contest just one week after being discharged from a coronary care ward and won his bout by knockout. He is webmaster for the unlicensed website www.unlicensed2000.com and daily corresponds with fighters all over the world, recording their battle stories before they are lost forever.

An interesting read for anyone who is involved in combat sports or martial arts in terms of revealing the mindsets of men who deal with the ins and outs of conflict on a regular basis. One thing of note is that the toughness of many of these men is rooted in their experiences of being bullied growing up. They seem to use all that frustration and anger after they had reached breaking point and decided they aren't taking it anymore. Some learned to box, others learned martial arts, the rest just came out fighting. A common theme though is that they are fighting that childhood bully and the fire that gets fuelled by that is powerful stuff!

Some would argue the list I guess as there's no room for famous heavyweights Lenny McLean or Roy 'Pretty Boy' Shaw in this book. Worth reading if investigating the psychology of fighting.

Fantastic book. I really enjoyed it. The author does good to get so many inteviewed - and the men are honest enough to explain some of there stories. Its a shame they have to be short to fit so many in a book - but its really good

Bought on behalf of a relative as a birthday gift for his mate. I bought it under protest being a Swansea City fan who hate everything about Cardiff City.
