This is book three in the series and, tbh, it's all a bit convoluted and interconnected and lots of what is contained herein continues things started in previous books so, I really would recommend that you read Relatively Strange and Even Stranger first. There's enough catch-up if you don't but imo, it really is only delivered as a memory jogger rather than a full fill-in. Also, if you haven't read those then I would also recommend you stop reading this review as it might contain spoilers from these two previous books.
So, we reconnect with Stella as she is getting married. She is about to go on honeymoon but feels the need to make a detour en route. Her new husband is mostly aware of her abilities but doesn't really have the full picture. The detour doesn't quite answer all her questions but she has other things on her mind, including the patter of tiny feet... and then there's also the business which keeps her on her toes. And so begins another brilliant episode in this wickedly funny and often quite shocking psi-fi series of books...
I have loved Stella from the moment we met in her first outing in Relatively Strange. She's everything I ever want in a character and more. She's funny, serious, sassy, a good friend and loyal. She's also wonderfully weird. The rest of the cast are an eclectic mix of strange and normal (whatever that is) people and their similarities and differences lend themselves to some weird and wonderful situations and interactions that range from side-splittingly funny to deadly (and I mean deadly) serious.
It's tightly plotted and does draw threads from previous books together (again please read these first) as well as creating some new troubles for Stella et al to embroil themselves into. And then, in amongst all the shenanigans going on, Stella is going to have a baby. Oh my!
It's all things wonderful, just as the previous books were and I read start to finish in just one day - mostly outside in the sun on my hammock - gotta love being furloughed! No mean feat at this time as, for obvious reasons, my brain is exploding with what is going on in the real world at the moment. But this book was a brilliant distraction from all that stuff. So much so, and with how it ended (not a cliffhanger btw) I really hope it won't be long before book four.
