Product Description

Swedish musician Andree Theander attended various courses at the Musicians Institute (GIT) in Los Angeles. During his stay in California Andrée met Fusion pioneer Jeff Lorber who invited him to lay down some guitar tracks for his Galaxy album (2012). Quite an honour for a young virtually unknown music student to be included in the album credits next to L.A. session cats like Michael Thompson, Vinnie Colaiuta or Jimmy Haslip. Back in Sweden Andrée felt he was ready to make his dream come true and to start working on his own album. Andrée recruited a great line-up of Rock musicians from Sweden, he either knew personally or who had impressed him with their previous work. Over the course Of several months the recording of THE THEANDER EXPRESSION began to take shape with Göran Edman (Street Talk, Glory, Y. Malmsteen), and the very promising newcomer Christian Hedgren sharing the lead vocals, Herman Furin (Work Of Art, Fergie Frederiksen) on drums, Linus Abrahamson on bass and Michael Ottosson on keyboards. The result of the recording sessions, which were completed with a mix by Per Ryberg (Street Talk, Sven Larsson, Bloodbound) and the mastering of Sören von Malmborg (Dan Reed, The Rasmus) is nothing but spectacular, proving that Andrée Theander is a very talented songwriter and a strikingly skilled guitar player, who knows how to leave a lasting impression by combining his technical skills with a lot of feeling and an unmistakable sense for catchy melodies. Together with his band he delivers a pure AOR album, spiced up with energetic licks and furious solos and occasionally leaning towards the more powerful side of 80s West coast, all in all tailor-made for everyone who is into the high class AOR sounds of bands like Street Talk, Toto, Work Of Art, Mecca and Lionville. Track listing: Conception Of Life; Strange Nostalgia; Insanity Cell; Like A Chameleon; Sanguine; Feelings Of Luxury; Mr Know-It-All; Masterpiece In The Dark; Meet Me There Tonight; Champagne Wishes And Caviar Dreams

To be honest, I have never heard the name of Andrée Theander till' now that I received the digital promo for my review. By reading Andrée Theander's bio, I started to become curious about this really excellent musician.

From the age of ten, he started playing the six-string and later he began to write lyrics. He studied at the Music University in Sweden and developed his musical skills in Los Angeles, CA.

During his stay in California, Theander 'jammed' with several session musicians and he finally played with the well-known session musician Jeff Lorber's album "Galaxy" in 2012. Returning to his homeland, he began his musical concerns for his next step which was be his first solo album. So the "THE THEANDER EXPRESSION" began to take shape with the addition of well-known and acclaimed musicians such as the amazing vocalist Göran Edman (Street Talk, Glory, Y. Malmsteen), the young and promising Christian Hedgren on vocals, Herman Furin (Work Of Art, Fergie Frederiksen) and Linus Abrahamson and Michael Ottosson.

So, nowadays, the first step of Andrée Theander is titled "Strange Nostalgia". The question now is 'what should we expect from another AOR project ?'. The answer is simple : "well-played melodic rock or AOR if you prefer, stuff with a strong emphasis on beautiful melodies, well-made compositions, impressive vocal performances and generally a very pleasant album that definitely should not go unnoticed by any fan of this scene '.

Highlights here are the up-tempo and incredible catchy tune of "Conception Of Life", the melodious "Like A Chameleon", "Feelings Of Luxury" and "Meet Me There Tonight". A really good AOR release certainly should not go unnoticed. (written for Heavy Paradise )

5.0 out of 5 stars AOR At Its Best! 14 Sept. 2013

'Strange Nostalgia' takes you on a music journey of AWESOMEness! All tracks are amazing but the stand outs are tracks 1-3 and 7-9 (w/ Swedish rocker Christian Hedgren on vocals). This album is worth every penny/euro/etc. And whats not to love about the cover of the album which features a corvette (my parents used to have a 62' now they have a 64'), city in the background and a guitar/amp. :)
