About the Author

Michelle Mankin is the New York Times bestselling author of the Black Cat Records series of novels. Rock Stars. Romance. Redemption. Love Evolution, Love Revolution, and Love Resolution are a BRUTAL STRENGTH centered trilogy, combining the plot underpinnings of Shakespeare with the drama, excitement, and indisputable sexiness of the rock 'n roll industry. Things take a bit of an edgier, once upon a time turn with the TEMPEST series. These pierced, tatted, and troubled Seattle rockers are young and on the cusp of making it big, but with serious obstacles to overcome that may prevent them from ever getting there. Rock stars, myths, and legends collide with paranormal romance in a totally mesmerizing way in the MAGIC series. Catch the perfect wave with irresistible surfers in the ROCK STARS, SURF AND SECOND CHANCES series. Romance and self-discovery, the FINDING ME series is a Tempest spin off with a more experienced but familiar cast of characters. When Michelle is not prowling the streets of her Texas town listening to her rock or NOLA funk music much too loud, she is putting her daydreams down on paper or traveling the world with her family and friends, sometimes for real, and sometimes just for pretend. •••I listened to the Audible Audio Edition of this book•••

This was one of the most unique stories I have ever had the pleasure of listening to! Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross bring the characters to life far better than I would have imagined them by just reading the book :) I can't fathom this world without their voices bringing their world into vivid realism despite the fantastical nature of their existence!

×××When I listened to it this book was two separate books but now has been consolidated into one complete book instead. I feel that part one (originally book 1) is a sort of Prequel and that part two (originally book 2) is truly the first book. Putting them together in one volume makes more sense :)×××

This series must be listened to (or read) in order. This is the first book. I can't wait to listen to Dream Magic!

•••{Part One}•••

A Dark Twist Of Fate

Billy is a musician just out of rehab. Too bad that didn't solve his problems. He probably didn't even NEED rehab. When he plays his mouth harp he sees the angry dead. Ghosts that appear out of nowhere. He would think it a gift but he never sees the ghosts he wants to see. Being named King of The Bacchus Krewe should have him deliriously happy but instead all he can think of is his apparent Curse. Will the dead leave alone when he quits playing? Why has he received this honor? Who is the beautiful girl with the violet eyes begging him to help her?

5.0 out of 5 stars Romantic Fantasy 6 April 2016

I am posting both reviews from when this book was in two parts:
Strange Magic part one has me hooked! Wow! I need part two now! This has all the making of what has started out as a fantastical paranormal story in the heart of New Orleans. This book will take you to the streets of New Orleans where you will fall in love with Thyme and her unique Creole heritage and the sights and sounds of the bountiful Louisiana. This book introduces us to a country star named Billy Blade who is hot sexy and knows how to work a crowd with his amazing talent. This is a first paranormal book for Mankin but she can write anything because as much as I love her rocking romances this paranormal book is sure to please and I can't wait to get my hands on part two!
Strange Magic Part two is the most unique paranormal book I have ever read! I love paranormal and this book is like most of Mankin's other books with a hot sexy country singer named Billy Blade, it is modern but with a twist this book blends today with the mystical past. The main female character is unique in her own right, she is a creole beauty a sweet sensual girl named Thyme Bellerose. In a wink of an eye the story will transform you into a magical world filled with intrigue and mystery, it is as if it started on a black and white TV and then becomes this amazing technicolor world in which we meet the most unique fantastical characters. The book is so detailed that you will feel as if you are walking the cobblestone streets of New Orleans and smell the rich aroma of the beautiful bountiful city that it truly is. Must read 5- magical stars

I met Michelle Mankin back in June in Chicago. She and her best friend were so great, I was thrilled when I realized I had one of her books on my iPad. This story was so awesome! I really enjoyed the characters and can't wait to get to the next book.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars- A paranormal that demands attention 8 April 2016
By A T - Published on Amazon.com

*I received an ARC from the author in exchange for posting my honest opinion*

I've enjoyed this author's rock romance series for years, but still was surprised at just how much I enjoyed her first paranormal book. I originally read this as a two part book, but I think it works even better as a fully inclusive single volume. This was everything a paranormal should be: intriguing, different, and grounded just enough in reality to be "believable".

Initially we're introduced to to a flailing rock "hero" who clearly plays a major role later in the book. The beginning confused me a bit. Billy felt like a random addition and just as I was intrigued by him, chapter 1 ends and we are thrust into Thyme's story (the heroine). The reason I mention this is the first few chapters provide a bit of background, and though the characters are interesting and written well, I wasn't hooked. So if I were to read a sample, I might not download the book. However, once the "strange" kicked in (end of chapter 2), I was addicted. The action continues throughout the book, and I was eagerly turning the page late into the night to see how it all will tie together. I really liked Billy's return to the story after we learn Thyme's background. His character showed a lot of depth once he and Thyme are involved, more so than I anticipated. I found all the primary and secondary characters interesting, their subplots kept me invested in the story and eager to see what else is in store. There were also quite a few surprise reveals that kept my attention and had me guessing up until the end. My only other complaint was that some parts drug a little, especially while gearing up for a major shift. Regardless, I truly enjoyed the world Mankin created and appreciated how she left the broad storyline open while delivering a satisfying conclusion for the couple. I'm excited to see where the next book takes us.
