Format: Paperback
This short book recounts the extraordinary story of Bill Coltman - Britain's most decorated ordinary soldier. In three years he accumulated a unique set of decorations - VC, DCM & bar, MM & bar, Mention in Despatches, Croix de Guerre - yet never fired a shot and never rose above Lance Corporal. A devout Christian, Bill committed himself to saving lives on the most harrowing battlefields of the Western Front, committed to the service of others. This book tells his story and attempts to understand what motivated this exceptional man. This account, whilst brief, is well written and manages to get beneath the surface of a hero who eschewed publicity and acclaim and simply returned to his job as a gardener, and to quietly practise his faith.

A very good read about a man whose bravery and modesty is beyond reproach. If you are interested in individual stories then buy a copy.
