A Fantastic Celebration of everything Eurovision

This is a well constructed piece of music history and is a fantastic celebration of everything that is Eurovision. The fact that it has the very rare English version of The Herreys "Diggi Loo Diggi Lei" is a god send. I now completely understand why they wore golden boots whilst performing the song during the contest they won. If you don't understand that, listen to the lyrics.
It has the musically "interesting" to the fantastic. For example, Conny Froboes' "Zwei Kleine Italiener" sounds like something Perry Como might have done during one of his christmas shows, whilst the excellent but haunting "Nocturne" by Secret Garden, Norway's 1995 winner, sounds a little out of place in Eurovision. Nethertheless both deserved inclusion in this compliation as examples of Eurovision at its best. What I really applaud the makers of this compilation for was the inclusion of The Shadows' "Let Me Be The One", probably one of the best songs never to win Eurovision and very difficult to find.
If you are interested in the Eurovision Song Contest, then I recommend that you buy this compilation.

Euro cheese at it's best

A definite buy for all Eurovision fanatics. Not really for the beginner.
Includes some of the cheesiest tunes from across Europe. My current favourite being "Eres tu" by Mocedades, a song I had never heard until playing this CD.

Not quite the spirit

If you're doing a Eurovision compilation, which captures the essence of the competition, you should try to get the winning songs first, then some well known international acts whose participation in the contest is not well known, like Nana Mouskouri, Plastic Bertrand, Silver Convention, Julio Iglesias, Baccara, Cliff Richard, Mary Hopkin, followed by much loved songs which didn't win (Volare, L'Amour Est Bleu), and some songs which were naff (Didai Didai Dai, Boum Badaboum). Also make sure you've got the original recordings in the original languages, although versions in other languages, especially English, are suitable as extra tracks.
This collection falls short. It is too much of a mixed bag, and maybe too "Dutch"!
I must also correct "A music lover" from Cheshire. Mary Hopkin's 1970 entry was not Those Were The Days (a 1968 UK chart topper), but Knock Knock Who's There.
