In 2002, 11 months before the invasion of Iraq, the military captured and imprisoned a supernatural entity at Stormhouse, a secret underground base. This film documents the final four days of that experiment. 'Ghost whisperer' Hayley Sands is brought to Stormhouse by the government to make contact with the captured entity. Who knew a film about a captured supernatural entity could be so mind-numbingly boring? Stormhouse begins dead on arrival and doesn't offer so much as a single post-mortem twitch the rest of the way. It's like the filmmakers came up with a way to can mediocrity in cinematic form. There's a little bit of gore, but don't expect any chills or thrills or anything resembling suspense.

So, yeah, some kind of British black operations unit has managed to capture a supernatural entity and apparently wants to turn it into some kind of weapon against terrorists or something. Okay. So far, though, the only thing they've been able to do is keep it contained in a cell using an electromagnetic fence. Enter American ghost whisperer Haley (Katie Flynn), who has been sent to the underground base by some Minister or other to try and communicate with the invisible and silent prisoner. She does seem to make some kind of connection with the thing, but the lieutenant in charge opts to take more extreme measures for getting answers. Naturally, the entity ends up escaping and all hell breaks loose down there.

One of the many frustrating things about this movie is the fact that the whole thing is basically shot in the dark, so be prepared to turn off all the lights or risk some serious eyestrain trying to follow what is happening onscreen. Some of the dialogue can be hard to make out, as well, which is particularly a problem if you're watching it on Amazon's "we don't need no stinkin' closed captioning" video service. Really, though, there's so little story here that it doesn't really matter how much you can actually see and hear.

Stormhouse is a awful film, but when I read the back of the cover(in the charity shop) the story sounded good, I thought yes that's sounds right up my street, the first 20 minutes were good and very spooky, but oh my god it went down hill so fast, it became boring and so predictable, plus the deaths were way over the top,

The worst thing about this dvd release was the picture quality you could not see a thing, with most of the film being shot in the dark. The only positive thing I can say is, at least the charity shop made a few quid.

The premise for stormhouse is that the British military have captured a supernatural entity and imprisoned it nine storeys underground in a base called stormhouse. Into the base comes a ghost whisperer from Whitehall to investigate.

I was hoping for a ghost story, a little mystery, maybe some gore, and action. Instead we get the usual compliment of morose, unlikeable characters, and that is before they are possessed by the ghost. Again, we have a movie filled with idiots who wander off into dark corners to be killed off in scenes so darkly lit that you can't see anyone or anything. In fact the whole film is too darkly lit. What, the army can't pay the electricity bill? The only thing it had going for it was the last scene, where the minimum is explained. But it's too little, too late. Afterwards you might look a little more deeply into it, but it's too much effort for a horror movie.

Unfortunately, I bought my copy. I would feel guilty if I sold this on to anyone else. So I'll just have to use it as a coaster, and rest a beer on it.

A good idea gone to waste. I don't know if I liked it or not, it was too dark to see anything. When are film makers going to realise that it doesn't have to be dark to be atmospheric? I spent the whole of the film shouting "Put a light on!"

NOTE: Since writing this review I've discovered that this problem only affects the UK release; the US version is good.

Something's gone very, very wrong with this DVD release. You can tell from the other reviews; those who saw it at UK Frightfest rate it highly, those who've only seen it on DVD have trashed it. As much as I'd like to review the film, I can't; I have watched it, but I can't say I've seen it because there's nothing to see, and I'm not talking about artfully constructed chiaroscuro, I'm talking about scenes in complete blackout. Fortunately I watched it with someone who had seen it at Frightfest and they were able to tell me what was going on; one scene featuring squelching sounds followed by a gunshot, is supposed to be one character gouging out another's eyes then blowing their own face off, but there's nothing to tell you that on screen. The experience was like having someone describe a radio play to you. The denouement features the lead character in conversation with a possessed handrail; you'd never know it, but she's actually talking to the Major.

I feel for everyone involved in the making of this film; all that hard work to end up in such a mess. Equally, I feel for anyone who's bought it thinking it's meant to be this bad. When INCEPTION was released on DVD, there was a faulty batch, and WarnerBros recalled and replaced those copies. Whoever is responsible for this DVD ought to recall it, and if you've bought it I would've thought you'd be within your rights to return it as a faulty product, and if I were the director, Dan Turner, I'd be on the case immediately.

What a shame.

Yes, it's about supernatural. But why was it filmed almost entirely in darkness? That does nothing to enhance our viewing experience. When one is unable to see what is happening it really is annoying. Even the torches that the characters were using in some of the scenes were worse than useless. Supposedly a facility financed by the government it, is probable that cut-backs would not allow a budget for torches that actually illuminated. Now for sound quality. What! Virtually impossible to understand what characters are saying. Pity that sub-titles are not available. If they were we might have stood a chance of following the story. I have had to end my viewing of this. Sorry Amazon, a really disappointing presentation.
