I've been reading Destroyermen and Safehold more-or-less in parallel and have always slightly favoured the Safehold series. That has changed with this offering. In its latest incarnation, Like a Mighty Army, Safehold has gotten itself a little bogged down whereas Destroyermen continues to power ahead. How Anderson manages to keep track of what is going on in his alternative world as well as come up with interesting developments across that globe is beyond me. It's not just that he's describing one battle, one military advance, another battle, another advance ad infinitum; it is that new boundaries open, new twists and new societies appear, each with their own intriguing story to tell. And all that is on top of the battle/advance thing that's going on all the time. My only complaint is that the book comes to an end; I would happily have read another 500 pages.
Storm Surge is a great addition to the series and when it arrives in paperback, I shall eagerly read the next one: Deadly Shores.

Another great book in the Destroyermen series - however be aware you really need to read the other books in the series before this one.

There are multiple threads in this story including two pilots captured and trying to escape from the dominion, Dennis Silva and crew wandering around to find friendly races to help the alliance, and of course the usual Grik issues.

The imperials take more of a back seat in this book, as do the Doms, but the core characters have some time spent with them and the characters are fleshed out well.

Just over half way through, there were some good set pieces and action and was a case of reading as quickly as possible to find out what happened.

Some good advances in the story, and one of the better books in the series and I enjoyed it. There is a huge scope for Taylor Anderson to expand the new universe and hopefully there will be more stories to come.

Recommended.

An excellent continuation of a wondrous story, we catch up with the people that we have grown to love, as they move through a rich and detailed world.
Anderson has built an amazing world that grows with each book, he increases the richness of detail and adds new layers to explore. We get to meet a 'king' of the native griks on borno, someone we know! Big surprise!!
Walker leads where others follow, taking the fight to the jaaps! And the griks both.
Overall an engaging addition and a pearl of a book!

The Destroyermen are back along with old and new enemies and friends.

Taylor Anderson's weird alternate Earth circa 1943 is just as captivating as all the previous episodes. As with all books about alternate universes you have to suspend belief and just go with the flow. Anderson makes that easy to do.

If you are new to the series I recommend you start at book one and read the books in order otherwise it might be a wee bit confusing. Enjoy!
