Review

The truth is, reading the vast new Everyman s Library edition of "The Stories of Ray Bradbury, "culling through its perfectly round 100 selections (and 1,000-plus pages), stopping to wonder why it has taken 30 years for this classic collection to join the hardcover literary canon, a thought slips in repeatedly: Stephen King was thinking way too small. [ Without Ray Bradbury, there would be no Stephen King. Stephen King]. Without Ray Bradbury, there wouldn t be American pop culture.
He is the Shakespeare of American geek culture, which, in effect, is American pop culture. The Waukegan-born writer is a popularizer of ideas so frequently plundered, subjects so unusual yet routinely picked at, reading "The Stories of Ray Bradbury "becomes a crash course in not just genre but what its modern voice sounds like.
Christopher Borrelli, "Chicago Tribune"" --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

I have loved Ray Bradbury stories since I read The Illustrated Man when I was seventeen. I owned the paperback version of the stories of Ray Bradbury vol. 1 prior to this, and now it's good to have the short stories from volumes 1 and 2 in one hardback edition. I was a bit concerned that the type would be microscopic because of the number of stories but it's fine really. The paper quality is excellent too; this was another factor I was wary about. I dip into this every now and again rather than reading it chronologically. I would recommend to followers of Ray Bradbury and Isaac Asimov alike.

100 stories selected by Ray himself,a master of fantasy,SF,horror, and so much more that is not easily definable.I've been reading him for over 40 years now,and this volume is much better than a lot of the very expensive and(dare I say it?)full of typo volumes available from small presses--I know,I'm a collector of sorts, and this is great value, with Everyman's usual first class job of presentation. If you know RB,don't hesitate,if you don't,you will make one of your lifetime's best buys.

I had resisted reading Ray Bradbury because he writes fantasy and science fiction, which isn't my thing. But I love short stories, and had read that he was up there with the very best, that he had a style of his own, broke the rules and got away with it, so I had to try him. And I'm hooked. I love his style of adding one more additional sentence than other writers, an additional word, two, three, increasing the detail, but they aren't ever throw aways or padding, rather embellishments. His stories remain tight and crisp and well thought through. It's like he's colouring in the background more densely than others, whilst also paying careful attention to the subject itself. It makes for stories that are rounder and characters that are fuller. Brilliant. I love short stories, read different authors all the time. He's right up there with my favourites, probably the favourite were his writing to be in a genre that I enjoy.

Great collection, awful (and inaccurate from the first sentence onwards) introduction. The original publication of these stories had an interesting introduction from Bradbury himself. Would have been much better with that left in, or with an actual scholarly essay, rather than the trite (and factually wrong) introduction which is in this edition.

Classic stories by the master of SF. Rather small print though, but good value.
Enjoyable trip down memory lane when I first read those many years ago.
