I hadn't had this album for years since I used to be a serious drummer. 15 years later and now a lot of the jazzy fusion albums I used to listen to sound to technical to me and I realise I used to like them because there was a lot of flashy playing. However there are a few artists that I still love because they write great tunes (Pat Metheny, Weather report to name a few). John Scofield is also one of those great musicians who first and foremost writes great tunes and this album has got to be, in my opinion, his best ever. Every tune is amazing and the interaction between the musicians is just phenomenal. They never play apart they are totally in harmony with each other. If you like jazz fusion then this is an absolutely essential purchase. One of the greatest fusion albums of all time!

The phrase "understated genius" in use when describing this album is not a meaningless hyperbole - This album has completely inspired me through its delicate and beautiful sounds. In my opinion this is by far the best Scofield album. Throughout the album, strong connections between the players are audible and all three compliment one another superbly to create an original, beautiful soundscape.
This is music.

This is Scofield back in 1986
If you like jazz with a funky groove then look no further.
Omar Hakim's drumming and Darryl Jones's bass underpin the greatly understated complexity of Scofields playing.
Play this on the car stereo LOUD. The drumming is up there in the gods - and then you get hooked by the rest of the playing.
Wonderful stuff - If you think jazz and imagine endless boring mechanical solos then try this, it will put a smile on your face
